I used a helicoil repair on a stripped exhaust stud insert on my Harley Shovelhead. I used a drop of locktite on the coil. This was over 5yrs back, no problems. Love these kits.

You're the only one i've seen so far to use proper cutting fluid with the tap. You win the prize. Nice to see it done properly! Now to fix the cylinder head on my dolomite...

Great Video, Never had to do a Thread repair until my Brake Caliper bracket stripped a bolt, Tried a Tap but thread had gone, Have ordered a Helicoil Kit and now feel more confident, Thanks for showing and explaining what to do, cheers.

On the fitting tool there is a ring which is held down by a small allen screw. You should move this down so you push on the back of the insert when fitting, otherwise if you push too hard the coils separate and this makes fitting much harder. But otherwise nice video

Had the pleasure of watching a guy in my shop use one of these. Had to watch a video on it. Fantastic commentary and instruction!! Thank you so much.

Thanks very much. Very helpful video! I was confused when my instructions said 'remove the tang' so I came to YouTube for help!

Nice work and video!
If I may add something, it would be this:
If the job allows it and you have access to a press drill, use it! If no press drill available take extra precautions to ensure that you drill AND tap your damaged hole straight!! Installing an Helicoil insert at an angle slightly off 90 degrees will sometimes prevent from fastening your parts back together. Especially when you have many holes that needs a proper alignment with each other.
If you repair through threads, on a hole that must be sealed (thinking of exhaust manifold bolts here) it's good measure to use a thread sealant such as loctite 2620. On your helicoil before you insert into your freshly oversized and tapped hole.
Do not learn it the hard way like I did.

If you have to ran a tap anyways sometimes it's often possible to drill and tap for a bigger bolt size.

Thank you for the great tutorial. I followed it this morning and it worked perfectly.

Everything looks good BUT regarding the threads (FACE bushing) being screwed in.
IF you're doing a repair on an oil pan, I don't want to KNOCK that small piece into the pan that was used in conjunction with the tool in order to screw it in. Also, what's keeping the threads (FACE bushing) from screwing in further after inserting the plug that is screwed into the newly inserted threads at the very last step?

Excellent video, perfectly clear.

I need to do a sump and as it's a blind hole, I was wondering about the tang, looked through the previous comments and saw you mention it could be impossible to get it out of a blind hole. Do you think if I tied some cotton to it and punched it through I may be able to get it? It seemed to come off so easy that I don't want to leave it on.

How "fluid tight" are these heli-coil? I have a stripped out oil check bolt on my dirt bike. If the heli-coil isn't tight enough oil will leak out around the threads.
