Favorite Bruce Lee line in the movie Enter The Dragon when the bully on the ship challenges him to a fight, and Bruce says sure, but not here, and points to a nearby island, and the man agrees. He helps the meathead into a smaller boat, then unties the rope, and the guy drifts away. He the says, "That's the art of fighting without fighting". Brilliant! Very ninja of him.

When people say he wouldn't survive UFC, it's really quite silly because you're imagining you'd pluck Bruce Lee out of history, and place him in a ring. When in reality, if he was born in this era, he'd train like any other UFC fighter and use whatever suits his style, he'd have the same nutrition awareness, the same modern training regimes, the same sparring routines, as any other modern fighters, so no, he wouldn't get destroyed, but he also wouldn't necessarily be peerless and own everyone, he'd just be another fighter, how good he might be is entirely speculative, maybe he could pull a Pacquiao and move through the most weight divisions but in UFC instead of boxing, he'd certainly have the determination to be great, and the showmanship to be an entertaining fighter, although I can't quite imagine him throwing bottles around at press conferences like a dickhead.

All of that is missing the point of Bruce Lee, what sets him apart from everyone else wasn't his ability to kick sandbags around or his unverified street fights against goons, but his reform of Chinese martial arts and essentially destroying the mysticism that surrounds Kung Fu with something the resembles the scientific method. He also helped formulate the idea of mixed martial arts, so if plucking him out of history and have him lose a fight against a modern fighter means anything, then so does saying the Wright brothers sucked because modern planes would be better than theirs, it's irrelevant.

Step behind side kick is definitely the most underestimated kick in mma. You wanna knock someone back like 20 feet or break some ribs? That kick is great. I wish more mma instructors would emphasize it.
