That’s the best feeling ever: Going back to your look at your art and think, “Wow, I drew that?”

I think a lot of people will hear just “give up if you don’t like it.”, but I think the more important takeaway is to figure out why you like the craft in the first place.

I was afraid at first when I read the title, but then this video helps me to remind myself to enjoy drawing even though I can't fulfil my own expectation. Thankyou for this video

I used get frustrated but after almost a year of struggle, i have finally learnt to relax and focus on improving little by little.

I dont understand how people can "improve little by little." My mom put me in an art-focused class since she knows I like drawing. But the constant pressure of people being better than you makes me loose motivation and I get stressed when drawing. Unlike those days I could just grab my pencil and start drawing whatever. I cant seem to do that anymore.

I came here expecting to be discouraged left feeling more motivated than ever

I don’t hate drawing, I just hate the fact that I have a hard time motivating myself to draw because whenever I see other people’s art, I get demotivated, and then when I look at my art, it doesn’t look like I want it to look, and then I get demotivated even more, and I try to force myself to draw to at least try and improve some or because I saw something I want to try and draw, and I can only draw a singular line before wanting to give up because I don’t have any motivation

I like to draw, but I like to procrastinate more. Sigh.

Art gets more fun the better you are. Don't feel bar you are frustrated after spending 10 hours on a picture and no one online even cares about it. Your time will come, just train.

So much this. I’ve been an illustrator for more than 20 years and I’ve literally worked in nearly every industry. I’ve been an inker in the comic book industry. I painted book covers, board game and tabletop game illustration. Illustrations for RPGs, concept design, murals, I’ve even done technical illustration for the US military. This message is one of the hardest things to learn as a career illustrator. Especially someone like me who became very adept at adjusting my style to fit any situation / client. At one point was even a ghost penciler for a fairly famous comic book artist who was way behind on a deadline because I could mimic his style so well even he had trouble telling my pages from his own. BUT, I fell into a trap. I was so focused on getting the next gig and convinced I had to completely push aside the styles I wanted to experiment with to keep those clients, I realized one day, I had no style. In fact after a 15 year career, my ability to draw had suffered because I no longer knew what or how to draw without a client telling me do this and we want it to match this artist or this style (like Art Nuveau)

Once I realized that, I was working for the Navy at the time, I quit doing commercial illustration. It was scary. Then I became a tattoo artist. In the 4 years since I’ve done that I began rediscovering my personal style and slowly I’m not only getting more and more tattoo clients who search out me for how I do things but I’m starting to get more and more illustration work based on my post-commercial art style choices. If you hate what your doing sometimes you just have to step back and make sure your not trying to artistically shove your round peg into a square hole.

I read a quote that said "It's ok to change, even if that means disappointing a version of yourself you've outgrown." Been meditating on that a lot.

I miss those days when I just draw something that I can laugh at and not care about improving at all. Then everything changed when I actually try to improve and have been feeling like crap for the last 4 years.

Just you bringing it back around to the point of "Focus on why you started in the first place" really sent me back to when I was a kid and just loved drawing for the sake of drawing, genuinely brought me back to wanting to draw again.

I honestly expected this video to tell me the whole "if you're bad at drawing, don't draw". But instead, it's "do whatever the hell you want as long as you like it". I kept seeing this in my recommended and kept ignoring it because of the title (it makes the video seem like it's something it isn't). But now I'm happy I watched the video.

If you struggle to find a force that pushes you. Try to do it every day for a while. Some times you just need to help yourself into new habbits! I've done it and after two weeks I didnt want to play video games or watch videos anymore I was much rather drawing.

As an artist, this is so important to understand. The art you produce will only be as great as your abilities at the time will allow you. You will always top your best art because you always evolve as an artist! Keep striving if you love art yall, its worth it.

This video further proved to me I should embrace my love of stylized more cartoonish looking art rather than the typical house marvel and dc style

I know there is no chance of anyone seeing this, but dude you saved my life. Thinking your future opportunity is gone because you “lost” your skill, is almost enough to make someone suicidal. I appreciate the video, and the way you spoke. Not a lot of people have a magnetic charisma.
