There are three stopping positions at controlled intersections. 1) Before the STOP line, 2) before the crosswalk, or sidewalk, 3) and if those two conditions don't exist, than just before entering the intersection. The position of the traffic sign has NOTHING to do with where cars should stop at the intersection.

So question about filing behind a car at a stop sign. Following a car that's treating a stop sign as a yield for visibility you stop at the line behind that driver. At what point can you treat the sign as a yield? I have stopped at the line once already but following that car in front as soon as he moves seems incorrect.
