Yea this just solidifies my decision to leave the Amex ecosystem.. I have too much stuff going on to keep track of all the credits that Amex tries to get you to use in order to justify never ending higher annual fees. And 325 bucks just to earn 4x on restaurants and grocery stores is insane. I get 3x at restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations with the Citi Premier for 95 bucks a year lol AND I can still transfer my points out to the same airlines that i transferred Amex points to! Why would I ever pay 230 bucks more just to ear 1 more point at restaurants and grocery stores PLUS lose out on 2 points at gas stations?? 🤔

they want to be elite with their annual fees and prestige yet do credits for Walmart and Dunkin Donuts. Why not Starbucks or Whole Foods etc to align to the brand? They are very confusing sometimes.

I think this is a pretty logical move for where AmEx seems to be going. AmEx wants high-spenders, which shouldn’t be confused with high-earners. High-earners is what Chase is after. If you don’t use the cards I think AmEx’s opinion is don’t let the door hit ya on the butt on the way out. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They capped the restaurants…. someone must have been really racking up those points 😂

The Blue Cash Preferred seems like the best value to me in the Amex world.

Already dropped the AMEX Gold and have absolutely NO regrets. Platinum is next. Thanks for the heads up + video!!!

"A ridiculously expensive burger joint with a ton of french fries" lol so true. It's crazy how 5 Guys can keep their prices so high and still have a ton of customers. Still don't know if I'll ever get this card because of the high annual fee, but the Resy credit and the other card details are better than I was expecting

The 50 dollar semiannual resy credit would actually be perfect. My wife’s birthdays in May and mine is in November and we get meals at Resy quality restaurants for our birthdays lol

As someone who gets dunkin donuts every single day this is a fantastic change!

When you got the 40k points it was worth probably more than this 60k bonus brother! $7 Dunkin’ Donuts? Ughhh please give me a break 🤣. Great video!

I had one foot out the door with the rumors of $75 increase offset with a $100 SA resy credit. No resy restaurants in my area. But, there’s a dunkin a 1/2 mile from my workplace that I visit a couple times a month. Increasing $75/year being offset by $84 in dd credits keeps me in the pool and adds value and lowers my effective af

Great breakdown as usual, I am sticking to my guns. I am canceling my gold card as the af will hit before the end of this month. I have to limit too many cards with these monthly "credits" of which as we all know is just getting your af back. I am pretty much going to replace a lot of the gold card spend with my BBP, CIU, and the CFU. I am having a new appreciation for the catch-all no af cards .

$325/4% = $8, 125 on food and groceries per year.

That’s about $160 per week. I don’t spend that much on those categories to justify the annual fee.

Great video uncle Luke. I downgraded my AmEx Gold card down to AmEx Green months ago when the rumor begin that the annual fee was going to increase. I've been using the Blue Cash Preferred, Sam's Club, and Costco cards for gas, groceries, and dining so I'm good. I'm kind of on Team Cash Back. I still have AmEx Platinum and the CSP, along with 15 other cards that fit my spending needs.

The Dunkin donuts sold me...I have 2 around me. Family of 4 here so buy plenty at the grocery store. Eat out regularly....got the 90k bonus too.

Uncle Luke is so relatable, I wouldn't get much use out of this. I also like the Cincy mentions, as a Ky native.

Nice video Luke. I already made my decision on the Gold for next year to either downgrade to the Green and play the upgrade retention game or cancel altogether, but seriously $7 monthly Dunkin credit? What a joke!

I tried Resy once while on a vacation- that place was so bad it about ruined my birthday dinner. Luckily, my husband and I could laugh about it on the way out. Never using Resy again.

Great take on old Goldie'$ refresh Luke! Amex annual fee hikes I feel are intended to chase high spenders ideally (wealthy), but also those who are not wealthy but still spend which is why dunkin makes the coupon book. I don't like fee hikes, but I am ok with this one. I will use resy for normal anniversary or birthday dining (although I wish there were other high end options. Still team classic gold! The only white card that has fancied my interest was the delta Boeing one.

Have had the Amex gold for about 4 years. Love it. BUT wish they would give something towards some type of travel. The green card has better travel benefits at a lower price. I’m not asking for lounge access but a credit for maybe global entry would be nice.
