The Ubuntu Server installs a standard set of packages most used on servers, and you'll be offered some flavors like 'web server', 'email server', 'file server', 'samba server', etc. There's no desktop GUI environment by default.

The Ubuntu Desktop contain GUI and variety of user applications like a Office-like application suite, a web broswer, a music player, etc.

I have to give thum up to ubuntu server over other distribution server, it's just simple and neat, it only intalls what essentially needed for a server, even a roobie can google everything out if needed, just simple and straight.

So Ubuntu Server is like Windows Server
