There are no better recording channels on Youtube... By all means there are MANY great channels, but you make the information SO available, short and to the point, cover so many subjects, and communicate in a very very good way. What a man you are :D

That was very useful. I’d heard about distortion on bass being a good thing but it had never been explained to me previously that’s its vital to allow bass notes to sound out of poor quality speakers. I just changed one of my mixes and it’s made a massive difference immediately.

I like to think Paul Rudd is teaching me how to mix. Love this channel, thank you very much.

The most practical and useful explanation of compression I've seen. Thank you!

yo! i can't tell u how helpful these have been for me. i've watched and re-watched each one of your mixing videos, coming back to them each time it's time to mix a song to refresh and reinspire my work flow. THANK YOU for being such a clear explainer with great examples. I also love how much time you allow for your on/off comparisons, that's the most satisfying part! Cheers.

Thanks Graham, I learned a lot from your videos and this one shows me I´m on the right way. For a constant lowend I love to mix in a duplicated track with a highcut around 250-300 hz and hard compressed (ratio 10/1, fast attack, medium to long release). To the distorted channel I often blend in an octave up, depending to the bassline and the song also 7 semitones up +/- some cents panned hard left and right. Adds something hard to disccribe and glues to the guitars. Best wishes from Germany and keep on your great work.

one of my fave things to do with bass is double tracking and panning just slightly to either side. I tried reverb once and it was just to washy for my ideal bass sound. Also, if i want a grittier bass sound all the way through a song, keep the bass guitar pretty gritty and bright, but use a sub synth to give it the lower harmonic presence. It's hard or original, but i really enjoy using those techniques.

Great tip on rolling off those really low frequencies. Something I learned to reduce the "rumble".

parallel send to the waves aphex vintage aural exciter! found that little tip a couple of years ago and its my favorite, got it from dave pensado. he does way more processing on it but i've found that just the aphex is already good enough to get some extra bite on it and as a bass player myself i wish there's was a pedal version :P also if it needs a lot of help, parallel track with a bluey 76 completely destroying the signal to bring up a lot of low end (learned from CLA) and mix it in very low so you dont mess up your mix

I just found your channel jumping over from another of your videos; this is great, thanks! I just recently got the Waves CLA Bass plug-in and I'm really enjoying it - still just experimenting with the buttons and faders but it seems to have a lot of versatility and got me a great sound.

Good teaching! I am new to Pro Tools, I am really enjoying it. I am a bass player, people naturally assume that it's a bass lets just heap loads of bottom end on it, not necessarily. I play fretless bass and I love those high notes to really sing out. 1K will surely do that! But I love experimenting, Pro Tools offers such an awesome range of tweeking for the tweeking geek like myself. I am really a singer/songwriter I play mostly acousic guitar and I am learning to play keys by ear. So I am loving experimenting using my Novation 61 midi keyboard. I am new to midi. But I am loving the endless sounds, and beats, it's just amazing! I am not frightened to try things. But this is great teaching. What I want to know is why my Waveform window looks so different to what I am seeing on my screen? Sure I can see my channels, but I can't see my plugins except on the mix window. I am not sure how to use a compresser yet so this is good for me.

So I have been using IK Multi amp modeler Amplitube4. Where in my chain should I be applying compression and eq.? The modeler seems to do a lot of that already. Much different than working with a simple direct line in. I have been playing for about 35 years and still do not understand the nuances of compression and eq, so rarely use. Now I am recording and interested in learning more. Thanks for the video.
