Wide Push Ups Form | How To Do Them Right! (& Archers)

How's it going, everybody? My last video on push ups received a really good question: what is the proper wide push ups form if we're not supposed to flare the elbows out? Well, wide push ups and archers are completely different compared to standard push ups. I've been doing wide and archer push ups for about 4 or 5 years now with the form I show in this video and haven't had any issues or injuries.

The main things to keep in mind are: (1) scapular positioning, (2) hand positioning, (3) keeping a bend in the elbows to engage the biceps as antagonists, and (4) to engage the upper back to stabilize the shoulder girdle. I explain all of this and more in the video, so check it out!

Btw, I apologize for my camera going out of focus for a little while in the middle. I didn't even realize that happened until I was done shooting and started editing. Oh well... c'est la vie!

Thanks for watching!

Awesome combo at the end, alternating between grips

Thanks Ryan. Informative and simple description of the exercises, as usual. Have done "wide push-ups" before but with the fingers straight ahead. Have never had any shoulder problems but it can come. In addition, I would like to engage the biceps as well. Thanks again from a 73 year old Swede.

Hey Ryan. I hope you’re having a great day. Any tips on making a pull up thicker? Mine is top thin, and I prefer thicker. Thanks
