Several studies correlate more severe ADHD symptoms with paranoia. Why might this be, and can it tell us anything about the rise of paranoia and belief in conspiracies?

As someone diagnosed with ADHD, this was extremely helpful. I have had persicutory delusions all my teen-adult life. The paranoia has ruined my life and the whole time I blamed my paranoia on my abandonment issues from my father, and an adolescence interrupted by thyroid cancer treatment/surgery. Further more I had significant blunt force trauma to my forehead requiring stitching and days of monitoring. Thank you for this information.

I think another massive factor is sleep insufficiency. Irregular sleep patterns, sleeping less hours, or fragmented sleep. I struggle with sleep and it all creates a sort of loop with the adhd, especially if untreated. Bad sleep hygiene leads to not sleeping well and that leads to worst results the next day once your not able to tap into that sleep deprived focus you used to achieve. Throughout what you said and poor sleep, its not even all that surprising.

Very interesting and informative talk, thanks a lot.
I would like to know your opinion about other factors contributing to Paranoia associated with ADHD in a different setting, like in a considered “successful” by society lately diagnosed ADHDer with no or least experience of discrimination.

The cognitive distortion contributes significantly in paranoid thoughts even in a someone without ADHD; but being prone to make more mistakes and being criticized by others and and even harshly by themselves for these mistakes, makes people with ADHD more cautious and suspicious to avoid such situation.

Also, people with ADHD are more prone to be surrounded by manipulative personality traits like narcissistic and psychopath (with is always a traumatic experience) as they learn or tend to be a pleaser to be accepted or as to navigate.

I think Paranoia (being extremely cautious and suspicious) in ADHD people can be an immature defense mechanism built after years of unpleasant if not traumatic experiences.

I liked this a lot. Thanks for it. Your funny, and that isn't a negative assessment plus you know it's true and you do it on purpose. LOL. Hawaii sounds so warm and sweet as winter sets in. I hope you love it there. No doubt gardening will be different. Best regards.
