If you have severe anxiety, you may notice you feel paranoid and ask why do I feel so paranoid? You might even feel like you are going crazy and losing control. Is paranoia anxiety and are they the same thing? In this video I discuss when anxiety looks like paranoia. If you ever wondered why do I feel paranoid sometimes and why do I feel paranoid all of a sudden then this video is for you. I discuss what anxiety is and why it might look like paranoia sometimes. Mental health symptoms can sometimes be difficult to notice because they come on slowly and just become a part of our lives. Also, mental health symptoms may seem to be serving a purpose and benefitting us, and we miss how they might be problematic in our lives. Anxiety will often look like paranoia and you feel paranoid because the anxiety is meant to make you feel unsafe in the moment so that you can keep yourself safe. If you think of the fight/flight/freeze system that is the same as anxiety, then you can start to understand why anxiety might feel like paranoia. You might feel paranoid out of nowhere and then ask yourself “why do I feel paranoid?”, “Why do I feel paranoid when I am alone?”, and “Why do I feel paranoid all the time?” When you are experiencing high levels of anxiety, your body and mind are on high alert. Your senses are heightened and you start to look for the danger that is out there. You may see or hear things that aren’t actually there because of your heightened senses and tendency to think there is a danger due to your anxiety being activated. You know that the situation is not as you are perceiving it, and this makes you feel more paranoid and anxious. With the anxiety heightened and looking for danger, you experience paranoia that is part of the anxiety. This is different from paranoia that is a psychosis or part of a psychotic disorder such as Schizophrenia. If you have paranoia and feel paranoid, this doesn’t mean you are psychotic or schizophrenic. You would need to talk to a mental health provider to actually look at the cause, but it is possible for your anxiety to make you feel paranoid.

This video was extremely helpful. I have had anxiety for years and paranoia. Since covid it has gotten worse along with social anxiety. I didn’t know you could be anxious and paranoid too. I usually try to tell myself to calm down but it’s hard. I’ve had it all my life

Hello, thanks for the video, it really reliefs me that my paranoia is based on anxiety and not a psychotic thing.

at last been scrolling a while for a video to relate too..my anxiety coupled with paranoia is of the chain in certain situations..with in a few minutes I'm practically un concolable and every one thinks its craziness... because I'm not like this generally this way... until my anxiety is at it's peak then the paranoia takes over in seconds .. and I think to myself if something serious really did happen you would have to sedate me because I wouldn't cope wen I'm in that state ..

Paranoia is when subconscious mind activated without the control of conscious mind like for example when we see an accident those images get etched into our mind so deeply without much effort. When someone have paranoia these ideas thoughts get etched into their mind with no conscious control so they not even able to differentiate whether its true or false just like in a deep dream.
