Eating disorders and excessive exercise | University of Nottingham

This animated film gives insights into the link between eating disorders/disordered eating and excessive exercise. Individuals (of all genders, body shape, size and weight) who have exercised excessively as part of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and muscularity orientated eating disorder talk about their experience in their own words. It encourages all of us to listen and reflect but it may encourage in particular gym staff, sports teachers, coaches, personal trainers and those working in primary healthcare to start the conversation.

I dunno. It's really too complex a topic for a 3 min video. Working out almost every day doesn't have to be excessive. Sometimes you may want to do alot, a whole lot. For 2, 4 8 weeks. To break through. To make progress. When you got the time. Then chill out again. That's fine. What's extreme to others is a piece of cake to me, what's extreme to me is nothing to a serious hobby cyclist. Whether you are having fun or hating on yourself, both could lead to 7h per week working out. Some things are temporary some ain't. I definitely know about doing lots of cardio then losing the battle at the fridge. That's not torturous to me, its just another failed attempt at weightloss. I weigh 99kg. I shrug and think of my improved cardio that I'm not obsessive enough to have properly tracked, though im amazed that i can sprint up to 28kmh. It's just more complex than 3min can express. Is someone working out despite having work to do and it all being too much? Is someone picking a workout over a friends birthday? A work colleagues birthday? Okay maybe that. Every time? Some times? Makes me think of Franz kafkas hunger artist. Can you workout or must you workout alot?
