Why is the Ruble Crashing?

Not too long ago, the Russian ruble looked like it survived the war-induced sanctions. But, nearly three years on, the value of the ruble appears to be collapsing. In this video, we're taking a look at the ruble's recent decline, what's driving it, and why it's bad news for the Kremlin.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!

It's not a crash it's a "Special value withdrawal operation"

21% interest rates is absolutely nuts.
And they're already preparing for another increase as early as December.
Things are not going well for them...

as a russian guy who's been keeping close tabs on the situation: this is expected, but not critical "yet". for the past 2.5 years vlad has been eating through the layer of fat that our economy has built up during first 20 years of his rule. for the past year specifically he's been taking bites out of the national welfare fund - where my parents' pension is supposed to come from, and that fund is running low now, so he needs a new source of income. in comes his main source of income - oil and gas exports, which become more cometitive if ruble is weakened, so basically anyone with a brain ecpected this. this is government sanctioned and very much intentional, although it would be pretty funny if this "controlled" decline became runaway and uncontrollable. oh well, my parents survived union's collapse and the 90's, i guess it's my turn to get toughened up.

Looks like they ran out of money to pay the trolls, because they are mysteriously absent in the comments right now.

May it long continue. Even if the Russians withdraw from Ukraine, do not lift sanctions. In fact, if Ukraine does not receive considerable compensation, increase sanctions.

Some experts from Russia say's that the real inflation is bigger than officially declared 9%. They suppose that the real number is close to 15%.

Please make it crash before Christmas.
Thank you.

Data visualisation 101: the value of the ruble is **crashing** (into rubble), not surging, you need to show the inverse ratio, ruble to dollar.
