Yes. Rome came in and conquered the land & people there as they did elsewhere.
Thats why it’s named was changed from Judea (which is where Jew comes from). It is pronounced jew-D-uh.
Then it became the Roman providence of syria palestina. They almost always changed the name of the major cities where a people group came from that reflected their name.

The Romans also had another tactic they used there which was brilliant for its time. They forced on average 85% of the population of three conquered countries to switch places so most the population was new to that land and listened to them instead of the native population. The new residents didn’t know the terrain, any of the local sources for hiding, food, water, etc.

The Romans were some of the highest percentage slave masters that ever existed.
