Malaysian chinese ethnic here, great grandpa's brother did fought during second sino Japanese war(died around 1943) as a NRA soldier while most of us fled to Malaya, from stories I've heard from elders he was considered lucky to be in one of the german equipped division since their condition(training, supply and equipment as a whole) were better than other divisions, the few german equipped divisions got destroyed early in the war tho so he was assign to other various division as a remnant of destroyed units, never knew what happen to him after that since Malaya was captured so no letters came until after the war, died in a pretty major battle(never knew which exact one)
