I trained on a 2000x40 ft. runway. I wish I'd been told this. To this day when I approach a "normal" runway it seems infinitely huge to me, to the point of being occasionally disorienting.

For anyone wondering, this is french valley (F70) airport in Southern California, I train on this runway, it is 6000 x 75. Pretty cool to see you visit us at the airport, did you stop by the cafe while you were here? I really recommend it.

My best to landing was at 39 hours because I had Heat Stroke & brain went to automatic, not overthinking - I slicked it. Just had to get down before passing out. Texas, in summer with no air conditioner. YIKES !

Try float flying for unique. Logs that were not there the day before! Sometimes no bumps. Sometimes 1ft bumps. Shoals, rocks. And then there is glassy water. Absolutely NO depth perception! Then you have to try to dock. As soon as you cut the power the airplane turns into a giant weather vane. ANd then you have to time the power cut so you don't hit the dock/shore hard, but still have enough forward sped so the water rudders give enough directional control. Absolute blast! If you not have a sea rating get one. Most fun you'll have in an airplane!

Seems on speed in the TDZ, nothing wrong with a positive touch down (if that was the case) best part is that you briefed yourself on these illusions and how to mitigate them which makes you a step ahead in the future. Nice job

@EvanLuft, I am a student pilot and practicing my landings as I am about to solo. I can land the plane no problem but have an issue with the sight picture and flare, any advice?

Had this exact thing happen the other day, used to a 150ft wide runway and landed at a 75ft wide one. I thought I was way higher lol
