It's said that more than 25 million adults in the United States alone suffer from Agoraphobia or the fear of flying. And while those fears may be rational, airplane-related accidents are incredibly rare and flying is incredibly safe. But sometimes things can happen up in the air that will put even the best of pilots to the test, braving strong winds and even mitigating birds in the engine. And don’t forget about all of the airports that require pilots to make death-defying maneuvers just to come in for a safe landing. So join us for today’s video, where we look at 15 of the most dangerous plane takeoffs and landings!

Is no one going to mention that in the description, Agoraphobia does NOT = fear of flying...? The author must mean "Aerophobia".

FYI, the landing gear failure wasn't "hanging on by just a thread" the gear was fully in tack and is actually designed to take the punishment of a failure such as this. But the media and vids like this one love drama. Pilots are actually trained and there is protocol for failures like this.

Congonhas (Con-gon-eeas) is the 2nd largest airport in Brazil, in terms of passenger traffic, and is second only to Cumbica Airport (Guarulhos).
Until 2018, it received international and local flights. Today it operates only local flights, but even so, in 2019 - pre-pandemic, it handled more than 22 million passengers.
I myself have used Congonhas Airport dozens of times and I can say that it is an excellent airport, which offers an equally excellent infrastructure.
On a clear night, the approach to the airport is an unforgettable & beautiful show of thousands of lights and roads, like an immense anthill!

Number 6 - Jet Blue landing with the sideways front landing gear - This video leaves out the best part! The pilot balanced the plane on the back two wheels for as long as possible before letting the front landing gear hit the ground. That undoubtably saved the front gear from collapsing.

How about Dutch Harbor/Unalaska Airport in Alaska? That's an airport worthy of being on this last.

The best way to get to Saba is to fly to Princess Juliana in St.Martins. We had a time share on St. Martins and took the Dash 7 on several occasions to Saba. We swore the Saban pilots were fresh out of high school.

Interesting video

You know when you’re on a beach too close to an airport when you go back to your hotel room and discover tread marks on your stomach!

7:40 actually departed from Tallinn, Estonia and headed to Moscow. Because of the issues with landing gear they decided to redirect the flight to Leningrad for an emergency landing. The pilots wanted to use up all fuel to diminish fire risk at "belly landing" and kept circling around the city, but fuel gauges gave wrong readout and fuel ran out when they were too far from airport. So quick decision was made for waterlanding.

Why did you ommit the actual footage of the planes wing striking the runway of Hamburg?

I initially sat comfortably on my couch to begin this video but ended up on the edge of the same piece of furniture to complete it.

Ascension island, another near St Helena played an important role during the Falklands war and is still in use today by us (UK). The boat access to St Helena was the last remaining Post Office boat in service I think. Sailed to Cape Town, as far as I know.

The take offs and landings ARE the most dangerous parts after all.

Australia also has an Antarctic ice runway that handles intercontinental flights including heavy aircraft such as the C-17A Globemaster. There are many similar aerodromes and dozens of runways across the continent given its size and multi-nation treaty, of which the US is not a signatory. McMurdo is far and away, not, Antarctica's "main airport", but is, America's main aerodrome in Antarctica.
