Just How Big is the US Military

America doesn't just have some of the most advanced weaponry at its disposal, it has about 800 military bases outside the United States, and it swells the annual budget. The US Air Force, the US Navy and the US Marine Corps combined are considered the world's most powerful military.

To better understand just how big the American military is, let's we look at the military power that US President has at his command.

We focus so much on weaponry, but what is just as important is morale. For instance, on Navy ships making sure that the air conditioning and utilities such as showers and toilets are in good working order, sleeping quarters and beds are large enough and comfortable, and the kitchens and mess decks function properly and provide good meals.

One thing to take into account as well is that every single plane belonging to a major airline in the US is maintained to military standards so that in the event of a war they can immediately be used to transport troops and cargo across the US. Effectively adding 5000 aircraft for troop movement and 2500 for cargo. Effectively making it feasible to move 500, 000 troops and their equipment anywhere in the US every 6 hours.

Thank these military men for doing service every day. so we can enjoy these freedoms.... We don't give them enough thanks. they are heroes who go unseen.... Well I appreciate them. Wish we did more to recognize them all. Each branch and each division in a show. Or parade. More parades on memorial Day too.

We need to thank the US and its military for keeping the 'rules based order' intact thus far. Imagine if malevolent powers Russia, China et al were the pre-eminent economies. The world would be a different place undoubtedly and not in a good way.

One thing the video that you were watching didn't even mention was the amount of helicopters each service has as well. I know more about the Army's helicopters. The backbone of which are the UH-60 which can hold over 10 fully combat-ready soldiers or lift up to have over 2100 of these. The CH-47 (in varying models) which can lift over 3, 000 gallons of fuel (nearly 21, 000lbs) or transport as many as 40 have nearly 500 of these. And my favorite (because I flew the first model of them) is the AH64 Apache. This aircraft can be armed with as many as 76, 2.75" aerial rockets that can reach out and touch you at over 7 km, or, 16 Hellfire missiles that each one can kill a tank at nearly 10km away or a combination of these weapons plus its self-defense 30mm chain gun that can "reach out and touch you" at over 4km! We have over 800 of these in the active military. So, just in the Army alone, we have a massive amount of fire power in out rotary wing aircraft. The Air Force has quite a few helicopter as well. Mostly, they are for Search and Rescue of downed aviators. Te Navy has quite a few as well. Besides support for the ship they also have anti-submarine warfare versions of the UH-60 and also search and rescue as well. The Marines have the AH-1Cobra helicopter for ground support for the infantry. This is not your Vietnam vets Cobra either. These are modern aircraft that are nearly as capable as the AH-64 (I'm sure this would be fighting words in a Marine Officer's club) . The also have a host of CH-46 helicopter and the modern V-22 Osprey tilt-wing aircraft for air insertion of marine as well. So as you can see, the services have an enormous amount of rotary wing assets that are force multipliers n the modern battlefield. To give an example, we could airlift an entire infantry combat brigade (appx. 5000 soldiers) with the UH-60s and CH-47s in the Army at one time. That's the ability to insert a major fighting force nearly 200 km in a little more than one hour from takeoff. That's a formidable fighting force to be able to project a pretty far distance in one lift.
The take away from this is that, although the numbers of ship, airplanes and soldiers, sailors and airmen are impressive to say the least. There is much more to the services that was not even mentioned in that video that make them even more impressive. kd
