As a Marine I can 100% tell you that a large majority of the US military would have no interest in turning against their own people but instead joining them. As another comment said, we take our oath to the constitution, not politicians.

Former airman here. When I was in, I swore in to uphold the constitution. Even though this was 20 years ago, I still uphold that. I will 1000% be with the people against tyranny.

You missed the fact that a large percentage of the US Military would refuse to fight against the people who rise up against the government. The great thing about the US Military is that it is a fully volunteer military. Those volunteers would have to choose a side, and not all of them would side with the government. This is regardless of who’s in the White House.

As a retired Marine, I would lay down my arms before battling a fellow countryman. As a civilian, I will fight to the death against a political army.

I think there is a significant portion of the US military that would either not participate in an action against it's own people or actually join them. Remember, they have civilian families and relatives at home.

OIF OEF Marine veteran here watching this whole thing with the POV of being in the "US insurgency" All of our war veterans with experience are now a part of that insurgency with all of that knowledge. We'd be going against the government, not our people.

As a member of the Army I will say that when you take the oath you say literally "defend against all enemies Foren and Domestic" we go over this all the time and the military will always side with the people.

I came here to ask why anyone would think that the US military would turn on its own citizens only to find so many servicemen and women already stating that they simply would not. Fortunately, they don't need to be reminded of the oath they took to protect the Constitution and the citizens of the United States, unlike our elected politicians, especially our current president. You also need to remember the millions of experienced veterans who are a part of that civilian population.

You have to remember this one little thing. The military personnel took a oath to the constitution to protect it. I took my oath In 1970. It had a beginning date but no end date.
