Is Bodybuilding a Sport ?

This is a touchy question. Nothing is harder than preparing for a bodybuilding contest, and bodybuilders are some of the hardest workers in the gym. But a sport has nothing to do with training and everything to do with skill. Listen now to Christian’s take on this.

As a kickboxer preparing for a fight is so much harder than preparing to get on stage and flex.

I agree 100%. Not a sport but I still love bodybuilding. It's more body art honestly.

am glad that you recognise is not a sport. But when you say that the preparation is harder, i disagree. Try boxing, muay thai or MMA preparation and you will see which is the hardest preparation. Flexing and posing is not so demanding to the body as it is to fight someone for 5minute X5 rounds. And while bodybuilding preparation is 90% around weight lifting, does not compare to a fighters cardio sessions, and martial arts training, sparing, pad work etc. even the weightlifting regiment of a fighter is harder, training hypertrophy, strength, power, muscular endurance, explosiveness... and so on. Both things ( full contact martial arts, and bodybuilding) have to do weight cuts, but fighters have to compete head to head with someone... powerlifters too.
imagine modelling become a sport 😂

Sport usually involves strength, stamina, strategy and skill. It is where contestants go head-to-head to see who is the best. Lifting weights can be a sport. Running can be a sport. Fighting can be a sport. Arm wrestling can be a sport. Even som videogames (eg gorilla tag) can be sports. But trying to get the biggest muscells is closer to a male beauty pagent than a sport.

Agreed, if there were steroids good enough to give you a perfect physique without ever training once, you could win the competitions. I don’t know why it’s treated any differently from a beauty pageant

it's a beauty/ego contest and boxing is far harder than any bodybuilding.

"Nothing is harder than preparing for a bodybuilding show when it comes to physical performances"....Christian, you've clearly not prepared for the Tour de France...you haven't prepared for a sub-2:20 marathon. Come on now. You haven't prepared for a boxing championship. To be clear, I HAVE prepared for marathons and I HAVE completed not a 16-week typical enhance bodybuilding prep, but at 32 WEEK! prep of a natty bodybuilder...resulting in 1200kcal per day toward the end 3 sprint sessions a week, 2 hours of steady state cardio daily, 5 days of lifting, and a physical job. Running at a high level for a marathon is much more demanding. As is competing in boxing. No comparison. All bodybuilding is really is the ability to starve yourself during prep.
