We owned Nissan Leafs for a few years because we couldn't afford a Tesla. Great for around town, little planning out of town and rent for longer trips. The Leaf has a bad rap, it served our purposes well. Jeannine

The point is to save legacy US companies while spending as little as possible. Tesla will make to many cars and drain the treasury. Tesla will introduce a less expensive range limited Model Y with over the air range upgrade.

Biden is pro union and is sticking it to Tesla for that reason. I have been in manufacturing in the Detroit area for 37 years in non union shops where things actually get done. I have also worked in union shops which are a joke, too many rules and regulations which makes them non efficient and almost non profitable. There are many reasons Tesla makes such large margins, non union is a huge factor.

Hi Viking, I hope you read this. You have discussed "American" made cars and how ford builds EVs in Mexico. Part of North America Trade agreement considers Mexico and Canada as part of the US. BTW, the continent of North America includes Mexico and Canada and this is the little loophole the Legacy OEMs use to say made in america.

I think Biden was hoping to call this the TRA (Tesla Reduction Act) but figured it would be too obvious so he came up with this plan. Hopefully Tesla will find some creative ways to work with this like reducing the price on the 7 seater. I think it will fly off the shelves as you don't lose too much cargo space even if you never end up using the extra seats. Qualifying the Escape Hybrid and AWD ID4 was a pretty obvious slap in the face of Tesla for sure.

They couldn't restrict the IRA tax break to only US, because that would break the USMCA that was already in place. So they have to include EVs made in all 3 countries that are part of the agreement.

Just order the Model Y with the 2 extra seats. Why would you not? The $7, 500 credit pays for the extra seats ($3, 000) you get them fir free and with a $4, 500 credit still left over. Still a very good deal.
