Erebor and the events from "The Hobbit" as a whole are very underrated. Many fans don't realize how crucial they were for the war of the ring and the free peoples' victory.

Despite the problems with the Hobbit films, I really liked how they portrayed Erebor, Dale and Laketown. Hearing the full story makes me wish that we could gete either a film adaptation or a animated telling about the war between them and Rhun. Great video.

Dragons in the earlier ages must have been truly terrifying since Tolkien pointed out Smaug wasn't a top of the line fire drake.

King Dain ironfoot defending the body of king Brand and king Azaghal of Belegost stabbing Glaurung with his last breath are always bringing me tears with their bravery

I love the deep connections Tolkien built across races. Dain defending the dead body of Brand ( 12:17 ) at the cost of his own life is just epic to me.

I love that as an avid fan of Tolkein you can tell me info I already know but still love the videos because of such an enjoyable delivery of the info. An incredible talent, please never quit!

Yes. Erebor is like in real History. A major battle that History almost ignores. Truly epic and horrific, but not really considered for it's profound importance. 🖖🤐🤘🇨🇦

At least in the films, Erebor is my favorite Dwarven kingdom. It essentially embodies the glory and wonder of the Dwarves both as a people and renowned craftsman and masters of the forge.

I have watched so many of your videos the past two days. I usually don’t subscribe to people or like I usually move along but you deserve all the support in the world for these incredible videos. Thank you for the entertainment!

I could listen to you talk about Lord of the Rings for days on end, your voice is so perfect for this type of content and you’re so knowledgeable on the history as well. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos!❤🙌🏻

I just realized that, like LotR, the Hobbit is another tale where the many of the victors do not enjoy the fruits of thier efforts. A running theme of Tolkien. You win the war for others, but not for yourself. You have made a sacrifice. The shadow of WWI again.

All of these places in the LOTR universe would’ve been amazing to see in person

Wonderfully done!! I especially appreciate your making it completely clear just why Thorin acted as he did - it's something that seems to just slip by so frequently, and I've had many a memorable debate with friends as to the real cause of his madness. With some folks asserting that ANY dwarf could fall into such madness, a weakness of their race; not something that's ever been supported in Tolkein's writings but, well...not everyone gets as detailed as you do, or cares to dig into the lore the way the fans here do.

I 'd assumed that King Under the Mountain was in part to distinguish the Dwarven settlement from the manish.

In the novel at least, Thorin was primed for Dragon's Sickness. He talks about his own wealth and inharitance. Thorin of the movies is someone I like a lot more.
