The two NASA astronauts who have been stuck in space for more than 60 days, may have to wait until February 2025 before they can return to Earth.

NASA also said the astronauts, who arrived to the International Space Station on the Boeing Starliner, may have to be rescued by the SpaceX CrewDragon.

Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore launched from Florida on June 5 on a trip that was supposed to last just eight days. Once in space, the crew found a series of concerning helium leaks and thruster failures that have left NASA and Boeing scrambling to find a solution.

we can land a man on the moon in 1969, but today we cannot go up in orbit and rescue two people

Makes no sense. Bring them home by another ship and go back when the star liner is ready to come home or be scrapped…

Because of Boeng's pride, they rerfuse to let Spacex send up a Dragan tomorrow and bring them home. Instead, will leave the Astronauts stranded in space. This should be the last interaction of Boeing with NASA.

No one should be surprised. Calhoun (Boeing CEO) just got a big raise, from $22 million to $33 million. Guess where he was before Boeing? Blackstone, where he "focused on creating and driving added-value initiatives with Blackstone’s portfolio company CEOs". What's a great way to add "value"? Cut costs. Like on all of those pesky and annoying safety requirements.

25 billion dollar budget this year. "Went to the moon in the 60's". Time for the biggest audit of all time.

how about spacex conducting a rescue mission to send them home?

All they have to do is ask Elon for help and he will do it out of pocket just to make a point. But then it will make Boeing and nasa look very bad.

Boeing needs to be thoroughly audited at all levels.

This is not at all surprising. While I was at Boeing, management had the junior engineers performing design, because the senior engineers were busy fixing design problems in production. In addition, management wanted to speed up the design schedule to make more time for solving problems in integration. I argued that the design cycle must be lengthened to give design engineers to time to do the design properly, to avoid the problems always encountered in integration. Management was unable to understand the concept. And, yes, my designs were always successful at passing I&T without issues, with the exception of incorrect specs given to me causing I&T issues. Joe

I hope they return sooner than later. You’d think there would be a plan if something like this were to happen without being stuck up there for months.

I would never be able to handle staying in a confined spacecraft for who knows how long.

Astronauts are not supposed to spend more than six months in space. January 2025 will put them at eight months in space. I don’t see how Boeing is still in business after their airplanes fall out of the sky and now they starship is grounded in space.

How can starliner be still a thought about being NASA number one choice? They stranded 2 Americans in space with no secondary or tertiary plan or means to bring them home! In 2024 this is ridiculous! Having a crew that was supposed to be on a less than 2 week mission stuck for 8 to 10 months! Unacceptable!
