A NASA astronaut on the International Space Station reported hearing a "strange noise" from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft Saturday, shortly before its scheduled autopilot return to Earth.

Astronaut Butch Wilmore contacted Mission Control at Johnson Space Center in Houston about the noise he heard.

On an audio recording of the exchange, Wilmore holds up a phone to the speakers so that Mission Control could hear the noise he was referring to. A pulsating sound emanating at steady intervals can be heard through Wilmore’s device.

"Butch, that one came through," Mission Control says after not hearing it the first time. "It was kind of like a pulsating noise, almost like a sonar ping."

"I’ll do it one more time and let you all scratch your heads and see if you can figure out what’s going on," Wilmore tells Mission Control, playing the sound one more time.

Metal expansion and contraction...they need to ensure they don't lose a pressurized cabin?

Mother's deciphered part of it. It doesn't look like an S.O.S. Ash : What is it, then? Ripley : Well, I... it looks like a warning.

Check to see if gas or fuel are venting. It sounds a little like water hammer. Since there are no moving parts on starliner when it's docked, that's my next guess: they are losing fuel or other liquid reserves. The container that's doing it, is "lugging" as the liquid/gas escapes.

Those are distress signals from Congress: “with Boeing getting out of the Starliner business, where are we going to get our (re)election ‘contribution’ checks from?”

I bet the ping is the awakening of the Princess Godesses that were smuggled on board in some mission critical equipment a decade ago.

It's either a rat or a cockroach that simple. It's not rocket science.

I have it on good authority that the two stranded astronauts are furious and homesick being stuck up in space. They were part of a conference between NASA and Boeing and they were pissed. It wasn't disclosed the the astronauts were part of the conference because it would be bad PR for everyone involved that they were angry at this situation.
