My favorite RPG shopkeep trope is that they will recognize that there is a huge Big Baddy that wants the total destruction of the universe, but they are not willing to negotiate down the price of the sword that is required to kill said Baddy.

Pro tip: If you show that shopkeeper the Compass of Belial, he gives you a 6% discount on enchanted shoes.

Don't forget to, that usually even the most average food merchant will somehow have enough money to pay you for items that could buy a freaking kingdom, but yet he stands there everyday selling apples for 1 gold a piece
