Rachel is a paid actress, she did exactly what you needed to teach

Unless your bird happens to be named Apollo, then he’ll come up and tell you himself.

Consent. The solution to almost every problem ever

Additional note: yall the volume of people choosing to attack my slightly cringe statement of “consent is good” is a little insane.
Please stay harassing me online so you don’t hurt people irl, because the way some of you talk is scary.

Funny is also when your bird learns with cellphones or alarm clocks. Friend's bird learned that he always picks up the phone when the alarm beeps so it imitates the beep pattern to show it wants to be picked up.

This also goes for other animals too. Both cats and dogs have individual boundaries that you’ll need to learn and respect. If you respect them, they will respect you in turn. And that usually means more pets for you!

My parent’s African Grey puts his paw out every time I go over there to let me know he wants to step up. I’m the only one he steps up for right handed. Everyone else has to use their left.

Oh wow. Someone that loves and understands their parrot! My cockatoo will pretty much always step up, he loves attention of course but occasionally he doesn't want to which is fine. She's a beautiful macaw by the way.

Mine just bum rushes me when he wants to step up. He doesn't ask. He just immediately jumps on my shoulder.

Loki would sidle over, as close as he could get on whatever perch he was on and lift a foot imperiously while eyeing you. Im not super familiar with birds (he is an african grey) but even i recognized the 'you, human, get over here, i wanna a ride'...then he'd step up onto your hand and walk up your arm until he was settled on your shoulder. 😂 ..I have to admit, it was pretty damn adorable.

Very meaningful solution and visual example. This is the type of examples parrot owners need to see more of. No scientific talk just real world usable technique. Thank you

My finches learnt this, no site said that zebra finches would ever bond with humans but it's only impossible if you don't try! I learnt this trick the hard way, and plus tip, if a parrot, not a finch, puts one of it's feet up in the air, opened and seemingly aimless, it likely wants to be picked up.

I was holding my hand like that, waiting patiently and realized that I don't even have a bird. I really wish I had one tho

One of the very 1st lessons I learned when I started dealing with Parrots was that I NEVER force a parrot 🦜 to step up. Unless you would like a very nasty bite!!

I would love a parrot but I don’t think I would be the best owner. I’m good with small prey animals like hamsters and rabbits but parrots seem like way more work and patience.
