Symptoms of Menstruation

Dr. Alejandra Salazar, Obstetrician and Gynecologist with Baptist Health South Florida, advises starting talking to girls before their period comes. She considers it’s important for them to know what they can expect and what those common symptoms of menstruation are such as bloating, bleeding, nausea or vomiting.
She advises when girls are around age 10 or 11, relatives and pediatricians should talk about period. Especially if girls are developing sexual characteristics such as their breasts are budding and growing. It’s important for them to know what’s going to happen next in the process of puberty, the specialist explains.
