I feel like most people haven't even upgraded to Windows 11 yet, and here we are already talking about 12.

The Chip printing machine from canon is by far the most interesting thing we had in a long while now. If they actually get it to work well, this could mean a huge price decrease in chips resulting in everything from graphics cards, processors and even storage becoming much more affordable.

The most strange thing is that right now Canon can create 5nm equivalent chips using this technique that is the high end of what ASML machines make after years of development and billions of dollars in R&D. I really want these methods to be successful so that the world shouldn't rely on only one company. 💚

Did not expect Canon to be a major player in the chip production space.

Windows 11 made me consider switching to Linux but now with 12 im 100% doing it...not just because of the UI but how much more aggressive microsoft is getting with violating user privacy. Plus Linux has caught up so much the last few years...not like in the past where you could not use 99% of app or not play most games. There is almost no downsides to Linux anymore.

Roled back to win10 yesterday feels a lot better now

I really hope the taskbar doesn’t go up the top. Microsoft seems more focused on the users it doesn’t have than users who it does who hate MacOs

The thing I feel for Nanoimprint is that in the end, you still have to do the mold. I mean, you now have to do one mold per every 100 wafers (spitballing, maybe it is 10K or 10M), which means less time for doing EUV and less machines, but in the end, the "wafer mold" still has to be done.

If anything, it feels like companies might need less ASML machines and will be able to replace them by Canon's one. And possibly also use way less energy (which is both a big deal for money in operations, and for reducing climate change effects because of it being an electrointensive industry).

Releasing a new OS is a good way to increase the perceived obsolescence of Windows 10. Idk how much that contributes, but I'd imagine people at Microsoft are aware of it. As of last week, Windows 10 is now under two years away from end-of-life as currently scheduled, with over double the install base of the two-year-old Windows 11.

When it comes to how small Cannon can go. Even if they can't get as small as they may want to. That doesn't mean the technology is useless. The majority of chips, especially in house hold items and even some other applications, this can still work. At the fraction of the cost and energy needed to make the chips.

I think in the nanoimprint lithography you would still need the traditional lithography machines to make the mask, it would be cheaper if the mask can be used multiple times but innovation in traditional machines would still be needed

With how strict Microsoft has been with Windows 11, I would suspect there could be stricter requirements for Windows 12. Very few computers have NPUs so it will be hard to push for people to upgrade to Windows 12 if that is a requirement, but it seems like Microsoft is more interested in selling new computers than supporting old ones, lol.

But how do you make the mask for Cannon's chip printer? Surely you have to use light lithography?
