Another perfectly used passage from the books, and Peter Jackson ends this beautiful trilogy with the exact same words from Sam as J.R.R Tolkien did in the books: "Well, I'm back."

Fun fact: During wrap up, Sean Astin got a few gifts for his work on the movies. This included his pack, the elvish rope, a sword, and the little dress his daughter wore. Yeah, that little girl who runs up to Sam is Sean Astin's daughter.

I was taken to the cinema to see them when I was just 6 years old, I'm 20 now and they're still my favourite films by an absolute mile.

It was Christmas Eve 2003. I was in the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square, London watching this truly amazing trilogy come to an end. And at the words "The End", the whole audience burst into applause and cheers... I will never forget it...

The ending in the books was awfully sad. The hobbits disappeared into their hills. The Dwarves disappeared into their mountains. The elves went across the sea to be with their gods, never to be seen again.

And only man remained.

In 90 years of cinema, a lot of cinematic masterpieces were created. But whenever i am watching lotr, i realize, this trilogy can't be from this world. The perfection of scenery, costumes, acting, music, plot and everything else what comes along with the art of moviemaking is more than mindblowing.

The moment when Sam closed the door and scene cuts the "The End". I cried and I realized that the journey of Middle Earth has ended for me.. There will never be any masterpiece like this.

Fun fact: Sam and Rosie ended up having 13 children! His daughter Elanor, who is the young girl in this clip, became a maid for Queen Arwen for some time. Later, Elanor and her parents visited Gondor for a year. Sam was also elected Mayor of the Shire for seven consecutive seven-year terms so he was mayor for 49 years!

There are so many reasons this ending is so perfect but the reason which really touches me is the fact that the story does not end with Frodo who is essentially the central character to the entire story.
Frodo's journey is complete indeed by the end, but the final images are what Frodo wants to leave us with. It is not an image of everything he achieved for himself and his legacy, he ends his story in the joy and sense of closure that once he is gone, he has secured and ensured the happiness and livelihood of all those he set out to save. As if to say in his final moments, that's what allows him the final closure he needs, his loved ones are going on and so in spirit he shall with them.
