Just a reminder that this movie won all 11 oscars that it was nominated for

One does not simply watch this scene with dry eyes.

From the books: "sam's will was set, and only death would break it" such a great scene

The fact that Sean Astin was not nominated for an Oscar is a crime against cinema. Literally the heart and soul of LOTR.

Just realize that Sam had still miles go, uphill over edged ridges, the very air being toxic, while starved, dehydrated and exhausted and carrying an adult hobbit on his back, and he freakin' made it.

Every person who watches this wishes they had a friend like Sam, when in We all forget that we all need to be more like Sam.

"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you."

That line, gets me every time.

Peter Jackson admitted that the only regret with ROTK is that Sean Astin didn't got any awards or nominations for his role as Samwise.

"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you! Come on!"  I don't think Sean Astin was even acting anymore.

This is without doubt one of the greatest moments in cinema.

I love how he isn't just talking about the ring when he says that. He's talking about trauma in general. It's so true: None of us can carry the burdens of the people we love, but we can support them as they try to move forward.

The truth is that even Tolkien agreed that Sam was the real hero of the tale.

Sean Astin deserved an Oscar for this role. Full stop.

I just realized that when Frodo says "I can't remember the taste of food, or the sound of water . . . " he's echoing what Gollum remembers about his transformation from Smeagol. "But we forgot the taste of bread, the sound of trees, the softness of the wind." The ring eventually takes all that away, even if you rarely or never wear it. How much more so for Smeagol, who was in the habit of wearing it often.

"My 'Samwise Gamgee' is indeed a reflection of the English soldier, of the privates and batmen I knew in the 1914 war, and recognized as so far superior to myself." - JRR Tolkien

Picking Sam to go with Frodo was the best thing Gandalf ever did, tbh.

I have never seen a scene which had such an epic display of friendship, heroism, fortitude and light in the midst of despair and darkness

The "Come on!" and the little stagger as he balances himself get me every single time.

That last “COME ON!” Just gets me every time. Sean is amazing. How he did not win an Oscar for this role, I’ll never know

This is the most powerful scene in the trilogy. I don't think there are words to express how grateful I am that there are people like Sam in the real world -- it only takes one to make all the difference.
