spilo this video really spoke to me in ways that i cant explain. you have really opened my eyes to how unfulfilling my life is just by sitting inside all day, yes im getting better at video games but getting better at video games is all i do and nothing else has made me happy because i dont want branch out into something i might not be good at, but that completely defeats the purpose of actually trying and seeing if i like it. spilo i really appreciate you and all of your work that you put out. you are a great person

I'm 33, and to me, a lot of what you're talking about is part of your 20s. When you're young it's a pretty straight path by your parents, school. When you get older, you start to learn you can just quit, or try new stuff, and you don't have to be so hard on yourself.

Honestly needed to hear this. It's really hard to let go of something I've spent countless hours trying to improve at but I haven't enjoyed a ranked session in god knows how long. Something needs to change for sure.

This is a very good, thought-provoking video. Interesting life advice from an Overwatch coach of all things :3

very well worded. fantastic advice in general, and hopefully something a lot of younger viewers can internalize early in life. The sooner you understand this, the better.

Spilo being GOATed as usual, haven’t touched Overwatch in almost a year but I’m so glad I saw this. All the best man

I used to be really into improv theater but I've already decided that I'll quit it at the end of this year. I already know I'll be so relieved after I no longer "have to" do it.

Good points as always. There are two concepts I immediately thought of listening to your thoughts:
* cycling > quitting something doesn't mean you never come back to it, you can switch a topic, learn something new and cycle back to the other thing later. Sometimes that's a good way to break plateaus too.
* growth mindset > instead of following a fixed goal (in life or at work or sports or wherever), think about how can you become a little bit better than you are right now. How can you grow? This can be applied to a vision like "I wanna be a healthy person" and it can reduce a lot of stress you put yourself under by following a specific goal. That's also interesting from a neuro biological perspective. A fixed mindset can really mess up your mental state thanks to how Dopamin works. Hubermanlab has some great insight on that.

Thanks for the off topic thoughts 👍

I completely agree. I've applied so much into Overwatch trying to go pro. I've spoken to you about this as well. It's crazy how much time I put into it and how far I got. Quitting that ptp for me has been a huge decision and honestly I'm glad I made it. It was great for me to pursue the top and I'm glad I did. I now know that if I apply myself to basically anything, I can get very, very close to the top. Even at a disadvantage (I'm South African so always 180+ms and still got top 100 multiple times as a fricking tracer player).

For me, I have a hard time knowing what to do next as i’m paralyzed by choice. i don’t like where i currently am, i workout and do try to now take care of myself, but that’s 1-2 hours of my whole day. like i’m not even sure what hobby to pick up

I’m 34 years old, and I’ve tried so many things in life. I used to play chess non-stop in middle school, basketball in HS, WoW for 10 years competitively, overwatch on and off since release, and software engineering, my current job. I’ve become diamond in many different things, and I’m still not satisfied. It’s getting harder and harder to find something new that I find interesting the older I get. I actually wish that I would have mastered one thing instead of hopping to many things, which is why I can’t quit OW. That said, that mindset did lead to me getting a job as a software engineer and getting paid well and having a great job that challenges me, so it’s not entirely bad.

I am currently 16 and this really made me think. I almost failed Maths this year, I barely got out (literally today).

This came just right after I uninstalled overwatch. And a lot of the guts feel I had before this decision were put out plainly in your words about quitting. I am definitely not gonna miss the sense of being stuck and helplessness and I can definitely find new hobbies. I will start reading and writing again and playing other videogames like War Thunder. Thanks Spilo for having as always the right tip.

32 year old here. Quitting is also realizing what parts of something you don't like, and what parts you do and using that to move forward to a healthier more fulfilling life.

You might like videogames, but not grinding so quit hardcore gaming and go casual. You might like going out, but not noisy places so you quit clubbing or going to festivals and go hiking.

That’s hard to understand what to do when people are saying « you should quite » and others « you should continue »
I guess we just have to enjoy our human life. Follow our dream/things that make us happy, while not overthink.

Recently decided to leave t3 overwatch. My thought process was similar to your reasoning in the video. It's reassuring to hear it from you tho. Thank you ❤
