Just a heads up for this. I was absolutely crapping myself building up to this. I twice drove to the clinic and turned around.
Finally had it today. They aspirated the fluid first, then the steroid. Zero pain for me except the pinch of the injection which is the same as when you have in the arm, leg or anywhere.
So so relieved it was painless for me.
Just a cold spray, inject, then injected the anaesthetic, sucked the fluid out then steroid. Same needle for it all, took 5/6 minutes each leg. Don’t worry!

I had it done but nothing was drained. Made pain worse, but the Dr warned me it might not help.

Os it standard practice to inject cortisone without the aid of ultrasound? My doc just went "eeeh, here" and injected me....

I was refused a shot because nurse wanted my knee straightened out. I see numerous videos of shots being done on bent knees.

Isn't it true that if there's swelling from fluid that the fluid needs to be removed first and then inject the steroid afterward? My mom has pseudogout and a lot of swelling from fluid. They gave her a steroid shot, but didn't remove the fluid first. It didn't help at all, I suspect because they didn't first remove the fluid. Seems like the fluid would dilute the steroid and stop it from working. I also hear that the fluid itself is sort of inflammatory and should be removed before steroid injection.
