If you guys are having problems, and you want to add a certain amount of GB, type -Xmx***G (*** = amount of GB)

I have 64 bit Java with 8 GB RAM installed in my system. Rather than change the whole line I just changed the 1G to 2G. It worked perfectly. Thanks.;)

This is what it says when I try and allocate 2GB of RAM:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Incompatible minimum and maximum heap sizes specified
Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xmx512M

Here is what I've typed: -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M

Hey everybody just so you know if you want to allocate more then one gig of ram to your minecraft file you have to have the 64 bit version of java otherwise you'll get an error message every time you click play.

You can actually type G instead of M for gigabytes!

hey um i got this error when i tried to allocate 3gb of ram to it. i have 8gb altogether

I was trying to download and play a mod pack from the technic launcher, it downloaded fine but when I went to press play it said "you have 1mb of ram alocated, you need 2.5mb of ram to play" or something like that. if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it

I just tried this out, i only needed to delete the part that said the Gigs and doubled it. i got a solid 25 fps most of the time, which would usually be about 12fps. gr8 tutorial
