In this video I’ll show you step by step how to shorten the length properly on tailored pants or skirts. I’ll teach you how to do a proper ‘blind stitch’ (or invisible stitch) which means you can’t see any stitching on the outside of your garment as it will be hidden inside. This is the proper way to hem suiting pants or tailored skirts and can be done completely by hand without a sewing machine!

What is the benefit/purpose of catching just the hem allowance for every other stitch? I know most hems are done that way, but it always seemed like it would result in a weaker (or at least more delicate) hem. What does that part of the stitch do?
