Seasonal breeders, like mice, use changing light and melatonin to regulate reproduction. In animals living in cold climates like Canada, breeding is timed with daylight changes to avoid winter births when conditions are harsh. Humans, however, are not seasonal breeders and can reproduce year-round. If melatonin caused infertility in humans, it would be widespread, which it is not. Melatonin helps counteract infertility caused by environmental toxins due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Previously, I had not been a fan of melatonin. However, after so much attention was directed at it in research these last years, I have decided to add Herbatonin to my daily routine for its antioxidant support and cellular protection. Better sleep is only one of the many benefits it infers.

WoW. What a fantastic podcast! I learned so much about Melatonin; even though I've been taking synthetics for years. Deanna is a great guest who speaks intelligently and eloquently; yet easy to understand for the amateur. Note: FYI Dhru ... your audio was not as good as it usually is ... almost like you were in a box :)

WoW! My brother and I ate farm fresh eggs from a neighbor and became very sleepy. We asked her about the eggs and she said nothing but I believe she was using a feed that may have contained Herbatonin.

I have always felt like my body must be great at making melatonin... I get sleepy at sunset, my hunger turns off completely and I sleep very well (I fall asleep quickly, wake often, but get back to sleep easily). I took a melatonin supplement once and physically felt my heart and breathing slow down within 29 minutes of taking it. It felt exactly like when I feel like going to bed.

I live in Vancuver. There is no morning sun. It's like living in a dark cave for 6 months. It's dark, cloudy and foggy for most of the year here. Dark by 4:00pm! And no light during the day for months! I also exercise at 4:30am and it's pitch black at that time!
