I like how it's "regretfully so, " implying that he really hates to do it, but man has a duty to fulfill.

I love the implication that Hughes probably waited until the post service allowed him to get the message

'That is a bit worrisome, isn't it?' The most British response to a death threat, tied with 'Bit harsh'

In that context, "I hope this letter finds you well" is a pretty sadistic thing to say.

He is worried not with the death menace upon him, but that he has a previous appointment at the same date and time and now feels troubled by the conflicted appointments.

I turned to my fiance and said "51 Navy Colt Revolver" and within minutes she narrowed down the exact year this short would be likely to have taken place between 1852-1871 most likely around 1855

I love that the maid isn't even particularly fussed about the drama she's reading.

I visited Kanazawa a few years ago and visited a museum based in a samurai's preserved home where there was a letter about cutting a man's head with the exact same tone of politeness. No infidelity (I think) but this has the right spirit.

Dear sir, i hope this letter finds you in good health and in a prosperous enough position to put wealth in the pockets of people like me down on their luck. You see, that was my wife you decided to- "WHATT?" - Jefferson "Fuhhh" - Alexander Hamilton Edit: I can't believe how many Hamilton fans are here 🤭
