Notes from the video to copy into your notes :)

Election of 1800:

Rematch, Adams v. Jefferson

Feds lost control of both legislative and exec branches

“Revolution of 1800”: 1st peaceful transfer of power between political parties

We are all republicans, we are all federalists

John Adams/feds wanted to keep power in the judicial branches

→ midnight appointments

Marbury v. Madison

Judiciary Act was unconstitutional

Established judicial review (determines if fed laws are unconstitutional)

Jeffersonian Policies

-eliminated excise taxes, etc.

-does not eliminate all of the Federalist policies (BUS/debt plans)

-cuts back military, increases Navy

-Spain ends Pinckney’s Treaty

→ France offers all land to America (Louisiana Purchase)

Needed money to crush rebellion and defeat Britain

-Shows a loose interpretation of the Constitution

-avoids a potential threat w France

-helps towards his goal of an agrarian society

-weakened the Federalist party

-Lewis and clark lead a scientific exploration of the western US.

→ start of US claim to the Oregon territory and Pacific coast

Aaron Burr

Burr wants to secede NE from the union

Killed Hamilton

Violation of American Neutrality

Impressment

England blocks trade to France, France blocks trade to England

Chesapeake Leopard Affair: British attack ship off the coast of America

→ creates a demand for war

Jefferson responds with the Embargo Act of 1807:

→ banned US trade with all foreign nations

→ Hurt US economy

→ helped fuel industrial revolution (no goods coming in, Americans make them on their own)

→ ironic for Jefferson

James Madison becomes president in 1809

Non intercourse act: US could trade with all nations except France and England

Members of Congress in 1811 known as War Hawks advocated for war against England

→ want to stop British harassment, Canada, and wipe out native resistance

NAs

-Tecumseh tries to organize a confederacy of tribes east of the MS.

-NAs get killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe

→ win for American expansion

War of 1812

-England’s arming of Natives on the frontier

-England’s violations of US neutrality

-Pressure from War Hawks

Thank you so, SO much for these videos! The American Pageant textbook jumps around so often that it's difficult to follow. These videos summarize everything really well without overwhelming me! After watching these, I feel pretty good about my midterm tomorrow.

This channel is truly a blessing from the heavens, I was able to do my entire project the night before in less than 2 hours because of these videos. Hope your channel gets big, keep up the good work. (P.s., has anyone ever told you that your voice is very soothing? Sometimes I just play your videos while drawing just for background noise..)

This far into the series and I must thank you kind sir for all this information as well as my 8th grade Early US History teacher because he actually did a damn good job at teaching all the important things you needed to know, most if not all of the content of these early periods I actually remember him teaching us and lecturing about. He really got us prepped for the APUSH test so many years before.

these videos are amazing!!!! in my class, my teacher makes us create a 75 page study guide for the whole years as we go, taking stuff from the book. As a dyslexia, this is basically impossible. i use the videos and take notes off of them and it is a life saver! i am catching back up to where my class is in the book and learning even more than they are! Thank you so much for making these videos!
