I lived in the Miami area for 7 years and the media constantly over stated the severity of weather in so much that people started to take their forecast as balony so when a real threat was coming it was ignored.

I would rather over hype a serious storm than under. They were working off the best information available at the time decisions had to be made.

No that storm wasn’t over rated, it was coming as a class 3 it grew to a class 5 and before it landed it weakened to a class 3
Only in some humans eyes with blackened blindfolds on tight . Did it seem to be over rated 🙄🙄🙄

It wasn’t that long ago in our history that the only indication of a hurricane was after the fact. Before satellites, hurricane hunter flights, and Doppler radar people looked to the tides and sky’s and could only guess, “Is a bad storm coming?”
One would think that any homes built in the last 50 years would be able to withstand that high winds and storm surge in a hurricane zone.
A friend of mine bought a home in Tampa’s historical district years ago. It was one of the original cinder block homes. His first hurricane season, as one was projected to hit, he loaded a U-Haul with his good stuff then sandbagged his doors and garage door to 4 feet and watched from Georgia on his home security cameras as the storm surge surround his house a little over 3 feet. When he returned home the water that got into his home was about a foot deep while his neighbors had 3-3 1/2 feet inside.

I think the forecast was spot on. The leadership & preparation was tremendous. I commend the people who decided to vacate. Fortunately the storm moved very quickly across. The fatality rate was low. Floridians proved wiser. Now the m/o of the media is to hope things are so bad that some govt official will then ban CO2. CO2 is not a cause of hurricanes. Hurricanes are Mother Nature's way of ridding the planet of excess heat. They are a normal occurrence.

Debating about the hype around a storm is just silly.

Overrated probably not, presented in a way to scare people into watching TV so they saw the commercials, absolutely. Regularly the local news presents the weather differently than what I can find directly from good weather sources where they get their information. They just spin it differently and of course they want you to watch their programming for updates, in other words scare tactics.

Pinellas here, if is overhyped why are most important local government facilities out of power, streetlights out of power, sewage out on the streets because pumps are out of power, power lines down sidewalks, trees on hause, boats in the pools, people's fighting over gas and pubix subs like its Mad Max 2 movie. This is only small part, I can write novel about what is going on

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life (present), and shall not come into judgment (future), but has passed from death into life (past).” There are 66 books total. Please read John, Romans, 1 John, and Revelation. Use an accurate translation like the KJV, NKJV, or NASB. The only thing we must do to be saved is believe in Him.
