I got an alignment last week. When they finished the alignment was somewhat WORSE than it was before I brought it in.

You can also tell if you need an alignment by checking tire wear. If the tires are wearing unevenly on the edges or are low/scalloped in the center, you need an alignment.

I started this video thinking I was just overthinking the way my car handles and then scotty just starting naming off all the freaking things that have/are happening to my car

My tire store switches out my winter tires every 6 months for free. For the last two years they’ve been giving me a printout showing my car needs a front end Alignment. I was a Truck Driver 25 years and I will let them know when it really needs a alignment.

Scotty we have are reasons, normal we we say you need a alignment and your steering wheel isn't pulling L or R then its be you had some type of excessive tire wear, most times you might replace parts but it saves tire life.

Since my dad died, it's been obviously difficult to attain that specific feeling you get when your dad is either giving it to you straight, or looking after you out of his own love.

But watching Scotty's videos are a close second, even an exact substitution at times.

Thanks for looking out for me, dad...

This is one reason I go around potholes. Ironically, the cars behind me don't seem to notice or care.

My local shop has a $180 for 3 years of unlimited alignments. So every time I go off roading I get it checked/realigned, prior and after road trips. It's so worth it

Coming up next week! Don't check your tire pressure!

You do have to remember that many streets are crowned so allow for drainage. In this case, it can pull to the right a little but still be properly aligned.

I worked at a tire shop for almost 10 years and I heard customs saying that they don't need a alignment because there car doesn't pull to the left or right. Until after putting new tires on the vehicle and they noticed that the new tires are starting to get uneven tire wear. Then they say that we didn't recommend a alignment because if they did they would of gotten one. Thank God I always documented everything and I put down customer declined alignment. You see I live in New York and there are potholes all over the place and the best what I always hear was I avoid potholes. That is so impossible especially in New York city so that's why I say you should get the alignment done at least once a year or get it checked every 6 months to 8 months to make sure.

My mother got an alignment at Sears in the 90s and one side of the car was higher than the other. She knew something was off when her sunglass slid from one side of the car to the other. She took it back obviously they did more than an alignment. It also turned out she needed new shocks. 😂😂😂

Oftentimes your car won't pull to one side or vibrate when it needs an alignment, but your tires will still wear unevenly .

I actually get an alignment everytime I get an oil change. At firestone you can pay about 2.5 x a normal alignment for a lifetime alignment for as long as you own the vehicle. So far Ive used it about 5 times - only little minor adjustments but still getting value out of what I initially paid. I also plan to own the car for at least 10 years.

My bearings kept coming loose. One time the wheel came off while driving. It turns out all this because I went too long without an alignment. Now I think alignments are a good preventative measure.

If theres no obvious signs it doesnt mean you shouldnt do it.

Once its out of allignment theres opposing forces working against the vehicle that can transfer greater wear over to your suspension and steering. Even chassis.

It might be so minor out of alignment that you cant notice it, but if you keep driving it around and putting stress on the suspension it will get worse eventually.

Better off to do it frequently & save your tyres, mileage and handling.

Scotty, Scotty, Scotty. Certain types of tire wear can indicate an alignment is needed.

Thanks Scotty. I have been a car guy for 50 years and I have been saying this for the past 30 years. Some people over maintain there cars over a 10 year period because of mechanics looking for an additional charge or tire stores !

Front end alignments don’t cause vibrations! It’s generally either wheel balance or a bad tire. And your car may drive perfect but still wear tires because it’s out of alignment! If the camber is off evenly on both sides, it will drive fine but wear tires! I did front end alignments professionally for 27 yrs. Scotty got this one wrong. Probably because he was never a front end man. I’m thinking his speciality is trouble shooting engine problems, electrical, computer sensors, etc. He would be a lot better than me at those kind of problems!

Hmmm…. Scotty been giving some shady advice lately. Last week he told us we don’t need to rotate tires. This week he is telling us we don’t need alignments. Did the tire industry buy him out so they can sell more tires?

Tire rotations are a must if you want to maximize the lifetime of a full set of tires. Some people think that it’s cheaper to skip rotations but it shouldn’t cost money to rotate. If you buy from a reputable tire shop or big box like Costco/Sams they offer free tire rotations. At worst just do it yourself I have done so several times utilizing just the scissor jack, spare tire, and torque wrench. You might think it’s cheaper to just not rotate on a FWD car and just replace in sets of 2. This will actually cost more in the long run as the fronts will wear out considerably faster by not rotating. Think about it in a FWD the tires are both torquing and turning and more susceptible to anomalous wear. Rotating helps even out the wear. Regardless of what type of drive you have just rotate. Also most places offer a bigger discount when you buy tires in a whole set of 4.

Now alignments don’t need to be done as often as the tire shops say but you should check from time to time. Just by a lifetime alignment package as it’s most cost effective. My rear camber was of out of spec causing excessive inner tire wear that prematurely wore down the tire all the way to the nylon tire cords after only 27, 000 miles. The car drove straight with no issues but the alignment was still off and killed the tires faster. Check it every year or 2 and have them make adjustments if necessary.
