In this video we look at a easy way to insulate a drafty window. The 3M Window Insulation kit is easy to use, but we have to be careful with the double sided tape for sure. I just simply share the idea of making a simple window insert that we can easily remove if needed and we can store it and put it in place as needed. This helps keep the window, molding or trim from having the tape stuck on it as well. This kit ended up being excellent for me and I do recommend it. I am not in any way sponsored by 3M or am I saying its better than any other kit. I do have a link in description if you ae interested and every click on that link does help support the channel through Amazon Affiliate marketing. Hope this video helps and thanks for watching!

I used a similar film by Climaloc on every window in my house. We have vinyl windows that seal fairly well, but we live in a very cold climate where December to February it's cold enough that we can get considerable condensation on the inside of the window glass. I put individual pieces of film on each double-pane IGU (Integrated Glass Unit) which was a lot of work but makes for a tidy job once done. The result is being able to maintain 35-40% RH (Relative Humidity) in the house without worrying about excessive water running off the windows and ruining interior trim and drywall, or in some cases actually freezing into solid ice on the INSIDE of the window.

Another reason to apply the film directly to the IGU is so you can keep the pocket between the film and glass air tight. If air can move through that space the moisture in the air will condense behind the film and it's not possible to get it out without removing the film. This would mainly be a concern in colder climates, but still something to consider. The main disadvantage to this approach is you cannot remove the film (easily) for cleaning.
