I've done this recently to some windows in my house. Where my dining room french doors are located, this area has always been cold in the winter months. I just did this for 8 panes on the doors, and wow, what an improvement! I've read that if the glass is 1-R then the bubble wrap changes the R value to 2-R. I've done this to several areas of the house, and the house is a lot warmer now!

Watching this video again because it popped up, and also wanted to say thank you for sharing. Six years ago after seeing your demonstration my daughter and I ordered a roll of large bubble (3/4”) from Uline to front the patio door and inside windows. The radiant heat loss was brought under control and privacy without losing outside light was an added bonus. You have helped so many people, God bless you

😂This was one of the first-time videos i watched. My husband thought i was crazy but then said it helped on our thin paned glass when we had big cold wind storm. I am certain that was at least 7 or so years. Wow.

I double layered bubble wrap, trim to fit, over all my windows in October, with a 3 inch eye level slot in each window (so u can look out) and the house and rooms are SOOO much warmer every winter! If you touch a window at -20c or colder, its very cold indeed, if you put a double layer of bubble wrap on that window and touch the bubble wrap, its MUCH MUCH warmer! I label each peice so it goes back onto the same window (custom cut) the next winter, and take it off in April. huge difference in keeping the house warm.

Hi, I just want to say Thank you. I have 34 exterior single pane windows, with storm windows, in a 100 year old brick house. This made a huge difference. The house felt warmer and we saved about $60 month in Ky. When the sun is out we open the blinds and the bubble wrap draws the sun in. Come spring, we remove and bag it up by room and label the bags. After 2 years we throw it away and get new. We order online at Home Depot, 1/2 inch bubbles 48 inch x 100 feet, ship to the store to save shipping. $74.

We also drap plastic sheeting over the staircase in the winter to keep heat down stairs.

Good tip. I also like that you stuck to the topic and didn't fill my time with silly commentary.

I just did this today. The upstairs in my new place is soooo cold. I covered all 3 bedroom windows and I can’t believe the difference it has made . Thank you for this idea !

Update on adding a little dish detergent to the water for better adherence. Worked great here in Iowa. When spring came and we wanted to use the windows again, we simply unfurled the bubble wrap from the windows, wrapped it into rolls, and labeled it for use on the same windows in the fall. Clean up was a non issue. We washed the soap residue off the windows and in a few minutes we were done. I can't give you a bill comparison or scientific analysis of heat conservation or cost savings, but I can say that the double pane windows with the bubble wrap were not cold to the touch in contrast to those without the wrap.

Love this. I just made new curtains in the bedroom-sized room that leads to the garage man door. I was going to use Warm & Natural on the window side of my curtains to help block the cold. Now, I'll also put bubble wrap on the windows themselves. The door sock just isnt cutting it.
Thank you so much! I have lots of bubble wrap that I was going to recycle. Yippee

Yes!! I do this for my duck house which is outside and has wire, so I use wire ties to secure bubble wrap to wall and then add a layer of cardboard on top of it to further insulate it. I find with the cardboard on top it is super insulated enough to keep the thermocube heater regulated to the point it is not constantly on and only turns on when needed and so with all that my ducks' water never freezes. (If you are doing this for a duck or chicken house remember to leave some parts open at the top for adequate air circulation.)

Thank you! My daughter's room is always cold. Put this up on her main window and it is so much warmer in there.

I've hard of this online, but to actually see the video really helps. My apartment gets cold, and I try anything to help keep the heat in as I have 3 windows in my living room, and 2 in my bedroom. Living in rentals, you can only do so much as you don't know when you might move, and you don't want to be nailing or anything else that involves altering property that doesn't belong to you. I have a patio door instead of a sliding glass door, so I'll use that on there also.

I have been using bubble wrap for years with the clear window film. But today I accidentally came upon a similar but even better way. Those shipping pillows you get in a package? Use them. I got some in a package delivery and was thinking of a way to reuse them. I applied them the same way I do bubble wrap and then put up the window film. I have one window that doesn't have a storm window (and my house is a 1920s bungalow) and man does it work amazingly. There is NO air coming through at all, even though the pillows don't quite cover the windows (close to the edges there is a gap). And today we are having arctic wind here in the northeast! I intend to order some online for the rest of the house. Just a tip!

Thanks for this. It's going to be 114 degrees tomorrow in my city (106 today) and I'll be doing this to keep the cold IN!
