Those people who were left behind were so nice! They were all running and waving goodbye to everyone who made it back on time!!!

I am crew so I will tell you the situation. You are told numerous times when all aboard is both verbally, on signage, and on your daily activity guide. This can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to ship departure depending on the cruise line. It is your responsibility to be on the ship in time. The only exception is cruise ship booked excursions and also if there are a significant number of passengers not on board. Say 20 or more. The captain has sole authority to decide when to pull up the lines and head out. Often at port there can be multiple ship departures including ferries, cargo, navy ships. barges etc. You have a slot. The tugs and the harbor pilot are arranged for this time slot. When the ship departs late, this gets screwed up and extra charges apply. Plus the ship has a slot for ship arrival at the next port for the same things. You get charged extra when you arrive late. The ship is scheduled such that the ship speed results in efficient fuel consumption for the arrival at the next port. When you are late departing, the cruise ship has to make up the time by increasing speed and usually going from 3 engines to 4 which can result in a $100, 000 in extra fuel. I remember in Puerto Vallarta we waited 90 minutes because there were so many passengers late. The captain blew the ships horn like crazy. Keep this in mind, once the ship is unmoored and is underway we will not come back for several reasons. Your best advice is to see if the harbor pilot has not left yet and see if he will take you to the ship when the harbor pilot gets on board. You better be able to get off the pilot boat because it can be tricky. BE ON TIME. Err on the side of conservatism. Its your dime to get home and some ports have little or infrequent or non existent air service.

First time in their life, the world is not waiting for them. Great job, captain!

The ship is untied and moving away, and yet still they run. How sweet.

I've seen this happen and it's quite hilarious to watch. Some people spend their lives being late. One of life's lessons here.

100 dislikes are the narcissistic people who missed the boat and think the world revolves around them.

These are the kinds of people who genuinely believe that they are the most important persons on the planet.

These aren't "devastating, " they're exactly what should happen. The fact they even wait for these people at is amazing. You know when to be back, get back.

My favorites are the ones so entitled they yell "Stop!" and hold their arms out as if to say "You can't leave without me, what's wrong with you?"
The guy at 0:10 is a perfect example.

It always amazes me that they only get in a hurry when they see the ship leaving.

Some people actually think it's cool to come late and let everyone else wait for them.
A ship don't wait unless you are a real king.

These are the same kind of people we used to hold planes for. Glad that changed too!

There are always stragglers. I personally know a woman who is late for everything. She'd be one of these people running on the dock expecting the ship to stop just for her.

Devasting ? Pathetic is more like it. People think the rules don't apply to them.

Little sympathy (only for children). In fact; I even like watching them running like the ship is going to turn back. It serves them right. The whole world cannot run on your watch.

The ship will wait if you are delayed on a ship's excursion. But not if you are on your own.

Devestating is too strong a word. Losing a loved one is devestating. Missing a boat is stupid.

You encounter these types all the time ... the ones that have a whole cart full of stuff in the "10 or Less" lane --- the same ones on the freeway that push into your lane !!
