Two Nutrients That Stop Thyroid Hair Loss

In my opinion, these are the two most important nutrients for stopping thyroid hair loss.

The first is iron. Iron is necessary for both thyroid function and hair growth.

If iron levels are low, both of these systems will suffer.

The only issue with iron is that you shouldn’t use it unless you know your iron level is low. You can check for this by looking at iron studies and ferritin levels. If your iron is low then replacing iron levels will be the best thing you can do for your hair.

If you don’t know your iron status then the best option would be silicon. Silicon enhances the effectiveness of just about every other nutrient on the hair follicle.

Supplementing with silicon is the best all-around hair growth supplement for thyroid patients, based on my experience.

I had thick hair from birth, but I lost much of it while my graduation. I did not took good care of it. At a point, it was very thin. Then I realised and started taking better care of it. I changed my eating habits, lifestyle, and shampoo, oils, hair conditioners and it worked and controlled my hair fall. I ate more of green veggies and fruits of different colors. I did exercise 30 minutes day. I used liiitllextra coconniooon shampoo, oil, hair conditioner. In last year, I have seen a very good change in my hair. I'm not losing hair like before.

Yep, had alopecia for 26 years. It would grow back sometimes, but during periods of not eating meat/fish, etc, my hair would all fall out. I have afro textured hair, so it was pretty noticeable at the front/temples/hairline and back of head. Did a blood test, and my ferritin levels were 30. 70 is needed to regrow hair, apparently. GP put me on high dose iron supplements twice a day. Within a week, my hair went from brittle/desert dry, with a strand life cycle of less than an inch - yes, less than an inch and patchy, to moisturised and growing. After three weeks of persistently and consistently taking Iron supplements, the bald spots are now filling in. Im incredibly pleased but also annoyed that I didn't make the connection sooner. I discovered I have iron deficiency anaemia as a result of losing too much blood during the menses. A scan discovered fibroids, which is causing heavy bleeding. Surgery and iron infusion is booked for 2 months away with the NHS here in London. Turns out, my alopecia is being reversed by increasing my iron /ferritin levels.

Hope this helps someone. It's been an emotional roller coaster ❤

I have hypothyroidism AND female pattern baldness, the latter of which has been deemed unavoidable and unpreventable. It sucks. I once had a glorious head of hair, but after age 35 I began to gradually lose it. A patheticly skinny braid is all that's left of my hair. When it gets bad enough I'll shave my goddam head and get a wig.

They said my iron was fine, but my ferritin was at 34 and iron was in the 100s so I took a supplement called derma iron. Felt a lot better and my hair started growing.

I remember my hair being thicker than my mums. It's not even close now. I lose so much hair now. I'm honestly suprised I'm not bald.

if you have a dr that doesn't believe in checking iron or ferritin you have to guess. So the best thing other than finding a new dr is take horsetail or silica like you said.

I do wish you so called guru doctors would specify brands. Many people waste money taking trash supplements

Had me pissed off about the iron bit until you clarified it’s a bad idea unless known deficiency is documented

My platelets and red blood count are too low. Not near the normal range at all. Could that indicate Iron deficiency? They didn't explain these results while I was in the hospital. Got my own copies and read them after I got home. So confusing, Dr.Childs.
