This is the best advice I’ve heard and I’m hoping it’ll work with my anxiety problems <33

Your thoughts will create scenarios in your head that reflect your insecurities, fear and worries. You’re not going to overthink your way to a better future. You’re not going to overthink your way to a different past. Peace is found in acceptance. Accept imperfection. Accept uncertainty. Accept uncontrollable. Being happy doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

I hate overthinking so much! I’m aware of how awful it makes me feel but I can’t seem to stop. This is extremely helpful.

I usually overthink at night, related to how worse the future would be . How my parents will grow old or i would not be able to achieve anything in life . I was right now crying on my bed and after hearing this, I feel a lot better . ❤

Okay but it's not easy to stop thinking about the worst case scenario.. I try thinking the best case scenario but then I immediately go back to the worst case scenario.. It's like my brain won't focus on the best thoughts but instead cancels out the good and bring the bad..

My brain goes on overload with the negativity when I’m anxious. Either anticipating new things or even mundane stuff I usually do

Thank you so incredibly much. For most of my life, I’ve been gaslit by a handful of narcissists trying to manipulate me in my closest familial relationships. This lead to me training myself to over analyze every scenario, every interaction. Those people now play a much less significant role in my life, but with professional help I’m slowly unknotting that mess in me. Videos like these tremendously help me do just that. Thank you a million times over.

Thank you so much!!! It is currently 2:24 am for me and I was crying in my bed about some stuff that gave me stress and anxiety but I knew I was overthinking it, but now I feel a lot better. I’v e been crying every night for months about this thing and this helped. Keep it up!

Based on my experience, journaling, while useful, can also become a part of the overthinking-process.

The reason I don't balance worst case scenarios with the best case scenarios because they are like expectations and expectations put you down when something happens in reality!

In preparation for the birth of my second child I was absolutely panicked. My first birth was quite traumatic and for weeks all I could think about was every way this delivery could go wrong. Luckily I got to meet a psychologist who was also a working midwife, and after rambling on about my nightmarish worst case scenario she looked at me calmly and said: “Now, until we meet next time I’d like you to think of your dream delivery. Go as detailed as you need to really be able to picture it.” I did, and I realised I hadn’t even considered all the ways the birth could go absolutely fine. I was so locked into my worst case scenario that the best case or even realistic scenario seemed impossible. Writing it all down as a short story made it more real and really, truly calmed me down. I read it every day and then we made a plan for it to happen as close as possible to my story.

I had an absolute dream delivery. Calm and collected. Had I gone in with the worst case scenario in my mind it would’ve gone worse, I’m sure.

An important addition to that last tip: Try not to use definite terms or phrases like, "This always happens.", "This will happen." Etc. As a chronic catastrophizer, anxious fortune teller, and over generalizer, these phrases make me believe that the negatives are absolute. It's better to balance good and bad scenarios and say, with "This may happen.", "This happen sometimes." We forget the good stuff and how we phrase things can really affect how we see things. This is what helped me and my fiance build a more positive outlook over time. There's more to it, but each step counts towards recovery. I am sure the doctor here can explain this much better than me. But I figure I would drop this here.
