I don't even take off the bottom cap I just drop the whole housing with a pan under it and remove the filter wipe it out and replace the large O ring put in a new filter and some oil done

Toyota thought it’s little less messy to drain in the small tube. Works a little but, more work. The decision is yours they said you have a choice. I did mine the messy way😊. Thanks for this short but straight video 👍🙂

Don’t remove the small one and don’t insert that plastic piece. It will break the spring eventually.

Will a standard size oil filter socket work? Or is that a bigger size?

I replace orings about every third change, no problems

RAV4 is the same I got the socket for the cap put a little pressure on the ratchet cracked the cap

2.5L engine and pretty much the same filter size as their 1L
Either one has a big filter for its volume or the other a way too small one

I noticed on the older Toyota like 2010 filters they don’t have the tabs to let you know where the o ring go and that fucked me up once’s bitch was leaking

You don’t have to take the top cap off if you don’t want to if you’re not worried about oil spelling around I never do you get dirty either way

If you leave the plastic thing on while you’re removing the cartridge more oil will drain out while you unscrew it. Bottom line leave it in.
