In this video I discuss basal metabolic rate (BMR). You can use BMR to evaluate the calories burned by your body on a daily basis, and then determine how many calories you need to eat to reach your personal goals.

Basal metabolic rate is the baseline calorie consumption of your body in a 24 hour period, regardless of any level of physical exercise or dietary intake. Terms that you may hear include thermogenesis, total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), resting energy expenditure (REE), thermic effect of food (TEF), activity energy expenditure (AEE) and resting metabolic rate (RMR). These terms help you describe how much energy or calories your body burns. You could also say consume, digest, utilize to describe that metabolic activity.

hi I’m a girl and my BMR is 1455. I’m 21 and my weight is 1.49 meter. I don’t quite understand how much I should be eating and how much I should be losing? should I eat around 700 calories and sport and lose about 1200 calories? I lose 400 calories in an hour on the threadmill, does this means I need to sport more then 4 hours?

BMR makes no sense to me. I usually hover around a 1500 calorie daily intake depending on what I eat, yet my BMR is 2, 090 according to several online calculators. If i'm burning 590 calories a day (1lb per week weight loss) just existing then how do I weigh 240 pounds? I walk around 3 miles a day which burns quite a few of those 1500 calories. So if i'm burning say 2590 calories a day from just from my daily routine and only taking in 1500 calories then how am I not starving to death?

My BMR is 1, 624 and I eat 1, 500 calories per day so my BMR is basically burning my 1, 500 calories???

When you say the amount of calories your body burns at rest, does this mean when asleep or awake or both?

I went 30 days with water only and I have went 14 days with water only a couple of times. My weight went from 203 to 153 and right now I am 149.
My question is I went 30 days averaging 600 calories a day and I don't lose weight.
Has my metabolism changed?

Ok so my BMR is1, 234 and I workout burn around 300-400 calories and consume around I guess 800-1000 will I loose fat

You keep saying "basic" metabolic rate. You probably want to exchange that word for basal.
