For the love of God, thank you for this video 😂 I have an old RV with like a thousand pounds of old silicone caulking on it, and I've tried just about everything to remove it. Mineral Spirits here I come. I also have an oscillating scraper, so hopefully that will make short work of all that scraping business.

After you scrape most of the silicon off, get a $2 pumice stick from Home Depot and a small amount of scrubbing will completely get rid of stains and silicon left and it will look like new.

I'm doing the exact same thing in my rental...same yellow tub stains, etc. But I was wondering if mineral spirits are safe on the plastic tub surrounds?

Carbide tile scrapers and extended scrapers (from an auto supply store) also work well

How did that metal tool NOT scratch the crap out of the fiberglass surface?

Use a multi tool it makes it faster but you get paint marks if you buy a cheap painted blade :/ found that out the hard way

Ive experienced how new silicone will not adhere and seal to old and have avoided it like the plague since then, considering how difficult it is to completely remove it.
Which type of caulk can you remove with mineral spirits and elbow grease? Mainly the top stained layer.. And also allow you to apply it over itself and be water tight? Thanks

I wonder if naphtha paint thinner would work better since it eats silicon oil

Do you think Lacquer thinner would work as well?

Hey! Thanks for this video. I have a question. I am trying to clean liquid nails off a fiberglass shower enclosure. The surface was not made smooth, it is dimpled.
There is a thick line of liquid nails to remove. Will your technique here with the mineral spirits work on this problem? Also I see what you are talking about with the scrapers.
Does the metal scraper not damage the fiberglass? Any tips to help, so I don't create a bigger mess would be wonderful.

Use WD40 and the silicone would come off nicely but even cheaper by the gallon, use sure it is vented and is much cheaper than mineral spirits (mineral spirits came from petroleum distillates)....

I strip the 100% silicons off my shower wall tiles and frames but there are still residues left so I after watching your video. I was curious if mineral spirits would works in removing the rest of the silicons residues from the shower walls/frames? Which would works better mineral spirits or lacquer thinner?
