InPresence 0067: A Tribute to My Murdered Cousin, D. Scott Rogo

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he recollects how he met D. Scott Rogo and how the two of them determined that they were probably distant cousins. D. Scott Rogo was known as a historian of parapsychology and also the author of twenty books in the field and many scientific papers. He ventured into areas that parapsychologists often shy away from. He was tragically murdered in 1990. Today, the murder remains officially unsolved.

I read your cousin's book, Phone Calls From the Dead. I really enjoyed it and read it again a few years later. It seems to me I bought the book when it first came out, using my babysitting money. Growing up, I loved everything about parapsychology. My mother thought I was the most morbid child she'd ever met, haha. Anyway, your distant cousin made an impact on me.

I’m so sorry you lost your cousin at such a young age and in such a senseless manner. Thank you for letting us know who he was.

That's a good question, and I expect to think about it throughout the day. Very few of us know when our last day will be. Sorry to hear about your cousin. Murder is a heinous crime, almost unimaginable.

Dear Mr Mishlove, You have given so much of yourself that I hope you realize how much you are appreciated. What I am writing about is the tragic end of your cousin. In many of your video casts, the case for reincarnation, afterlife etc., is almost undeniable. My question is this. What would it be like in the afterlife to meet the person or the spirit of the person who took your life or the life of a loved one? Has that question ever been asked on your program? What would you do or say to the person who took your cousin's life if you met him or her on the other side?

I think one should strive to live every day as the day that it is: one unique day that will never come again. This is an ideal conception, of course, difficult-to-impossible to realize. Live today today. It isn't likely to be your last day.

I just started reading his book, Leaving the Body, and decided to do a search for any videos on Youtube.
This has to be one of the best (and obviously underrated...since it's out of print) books about astral projection. I'll have to see if I can find some of his other books.

I'm thinking we should drop our preconceptions, not add more. Live the day that's here.

I watched a documentary on your cousin's murder, and while it's not well made, it does contain some of the basic facts. He died trying to help people in need, so he died a noble death; like an aid worker in a war zone. It isn't easy to help people. It can be dangerous to be a Good Samaritan.

I was curious where he ended up being buried or if he was cremated? Great video with great information on his life.

This comment contains what i believe to be instances of people who passed letting us know they are ok. I witnessed the last two events. In this video you mentioned some of your family came from Bialystok Poland, me too. Between 1900 and 1910ish my grandparents immigrated from Poland. Some of them came from Bialystok. The family names were Roslanic, Kolenda, and Kaminski.
In the mid 1920's my grandmother and her oldest son, Raymond, traveled to Chicago from Michigan for a wedding. Raymond was around 20 at the time. They left my Grandfather home with other children. While at the wedding reception Raymond and his cousin went outside to have a cigarette. They were sitting on a curb when a black car came screeching around the corner. According to the cousin they thought "gangsters" were in the car so the cousins ran. It wasn't gangsters it was the police. English wasn't Rays first language so when the police yelled to stop he kept running. He was shot and killed.
Back home the phone started ringing but there was no one on the line. It's important to note my grandfather didn't speak english so he never picked up the phone. According to my mother the ringing phone, with no one one on the other end, happened quite a few times when "Pa, looked white as ghost, and said "Ray's dead and he's saying goodbye"". They didn't receive a call from chicago until later that night confirming what my grandfather had said.
I didn't witness the phone ringing but I did witness two other events. My grandmother had a parakeet named Pat. Grandma (Busia) died in November. On the day of her funeral it was snowing. Lots of people were over to our house ( because funeral)that day my father parked his car in the backyard. Some said "Oh my God, look at that". Clinging to my dads car handle was a parakeet. My mother sent my brother Michael out to get the bird. It seemed fine. Mom, Michael, and I stood in the mud room amazed when Mom said "This is from Busia letting us know she's happy." We named the parakeet Mike and we had Pat and Mike for quite a few years.
Ten years later, on they day of my mothers funeral (a beautiful May day), a parakeet landed on the railing of the front porch of my parents house. My sister reached out her hand the the bird hopped on her finger. My brother, Michael, looked at me and said "Do you remember?" "Yes, this means mom is happy".
Michael and our sister, Carol, passed in 2014. Haven't heard a peep out of either of them.

Hi, I also experienced the Phone call from the dead phenomenom in 2004. I even recorded It. The phenomenom is real and objectiv. My research lead me on a Jungian way of explanation. It Maybe That the Trickster archetype is involved in this phenomenom.

Since Scott was supporting himself by writing, presumably there was not a particular aim to his investigations other than following whatever trail seemed publicly interesting. If you know of some theme or phenomena that might have interested him, let us know. Someone among your followers might want to take up the banner. On the other hand, it would seem a possibly interesting project to try to contact Scott through a medium (or by telephone) and see if he has anything to say to us.
As to sudden death: as you say, one never knows; but from a number of different sources, it seems less traumatic or disruptive to die than we imagine when we are clinging to corporeal existence. (Of course, you can say the evidence is mixed, and it could be just a matter of belief.)

What came to mind is something Jesus said: "...Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than food, and the body is more than raiment.... But rather seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you." (Luke 12:22, 31)

I don't think it's a good idea to live each day as if it's your last- it kind of impacts on your ability to make any intelligent long terms plans- at least for this lifetime. Having said that, and in view of it, it wouldn't be much of a change for me.
