It's crazy to have so many standards down pat and ready to go anytime.

One of my mentors, the late, great trombonist Sherm Mitchell, started hiring me for gigs. On our first show, he told me, "To put your mind at ease kid, don't worry about material. I know 40, 000 songs."
Not to be outdone (and also to put myself at ease), I replied, "Man, that makes me feel better, I only know about 10, 000!"

I miss playing with him, he was a joy and a treasure.

Of course, this is remarkable, but at the same time we must all remember he is a world-class pianist, working at very high levels with very great musicians all over the world.

If there was a point, in the recent past where he had any trouble with this, it was taken care of, and likely quite fast

I wish I had access to a channel like this when I was learning jazz piano in the 90s, would have saved a ton of time !!

Also, consider, if you ever had to go to the hospital for some critical surgery, or other other operation that required absolute world class expertise, you would want a doctor to be as good at what they do as Peter is at what he does.

Isn’t it compelling, though, that most of us don’t ever really witness the expertise of a master brain surgeon at work, and if we were to watch them work live, we wouldn’t really understand what they were doing or possibly be able to appreciate it until the very end result

But Musicians, like this, all of those years of learning and preparation, and practice and execution, on display for all of us, to see and enjoy, and be inspired by in as little as 59 seconds

So I guess what I’m trying to say, is if I ever need brain surgery…I’m calling open Studio first.😂😂😂

HUGE shout-out to Max Gamiz who does all the OS transcriptions! (Makes it so much easier to steal some of Peter's choice voicings and phrases.)
