I confirm vinegar works great as a final rinse instead of fabric softener! I’ve been using it for years. It’s funny how many people think that vinegar could damage or corrode the machine — when bleach is much more corrosive.

I wash my towels with vinegar instead of soap. They are fluffier (no fabric softener used) and softer! Also cleans washer!

I add it to the softener cup on top of the agitator. I've been doing this for about 10 years now. I quit using dryer sheets and it works great.

This works. I spent the 90s in a Metal band and this is the only way to kill the funk in stage clothes. For a full size load, briefly agitate liquid Tide, 1 to 1.5 cups white vinegar, and 2-3 drops (I literally mean drops, not squirts) of Dawn dish soap. Then add clothing to washer. Don't use more than 1.5 cups of vinegar. You'll risk smelling vinegar-esque.

I've used vinegar for over 30 years ij my washing in lieu of fabric softener. I see a lot of people worried about their washer. 10 years in first house using same machines, no issues from vinegar. This house 23 years and on 2nd set of machines and no issues from vinegar. All my family and friends who have taken y advice to try are impressed. I may try the tip to use in bleach dispenser but have always used in the fabric softener cup. No odors ever from vinegar not he fabrics. I feel this eliminates using toxic chemicals and better or the environment than dumping those chemicals into the water waste system.

i use white vinegar in the softener dispenser. i am concerned that there may be a negative reaction of the vinegar with the detergent, for example, if the detergent has a alkaline agent then the vinegar (an acid) would react making a salt, therefor cancelling each other out for cleaning.

fyi, i have see in a few places about vinegar damaging the rubber parts of the washer and not recommended by manufacturers.
but since i use only a few ounces i am not worried.

...how much vinegar are you supposed to use? I'd love to give this a try but don't want to use to much or too little...

If you have a dishwasher with a clear lid, do a wash with clothes or towels that you have washed with soap before, but don't add soap. Instead, add a cup of white vinegar and you will think that soap was added as the water becomes bubbly. For towels this will help them absorb more water as well. For extra bonus, do another rinse cycle with just baking soda. Obviously, don't add vinegar and baking soda at the same time.

I've heard that it will damage the washer by eating away at the plastic pieces.

So I follow a cleaning company on TikTok and they say not to add vinegar to the washing cycle with the detergent because vinegar and laundry detergent cancel each other out.
Is that true???

I add it to where the machine says fabric softener.

If you're afraid of vinegar smell, add a few drops of essential oil to the vinegar
