If I'm shopping on ebay and I need to convince myself that buying something is a good idea, I usually crack open the vodka.

I love the old school sub without the date, it’s a clean look I get so many compliments on mine. Awesome watch, even 20 Yrs from now.

Your subtle humor and reference to cleaning the watch band using your wife’s toothbrush did not go un-noticed...🤗...ha

Really enjoyed your video. Just started watching some of yours in the last 2 months and find your style refreshingly down to earth and honest. I bought my first Rolex submariner, a 5512, in 1968 in the main PX in Da Nang . I think I paid $240, and still have that watch today . It started me on a lifelong journey with watches. I've collected, what I like to think, is a pretty solid group of time peices over the years . For my every day rotation sub, I have a newer, super case 116610ln that gets plenty of wrist time . I've had my original sub factory serviced over the years but have always made sure to include a note requesting that Rolex do no polishing other than hand wipe down to the watch . That insured that no damage was ever done to that case . Any polishing to be done, I can do by hand . Anyway, keep up your video work . Really like what you have to say.

That gap in the box accommodates the wallet. I have a similar vintage GMT and it came with a cool Rolex green wallet.

Band stretch isn’t caused by the watch being «worn too tight» (8:40), but the opposite, worn so loose that it slides all the way down to where your wrist widens, or even a bit past the wrist joint itself, and where the hand begins and you then BEND THE WRIST with even the slightest force, especially upwards, the way you do when you LEAN ON A TABLE, PALM FLAT DOWN, and other similar situations. What happens is you JACK IT WIDER each time. It’s the momentum that turns the relatively small force you are aware of into the LARGE FORCE needed to bend vulnerable steel elements in a bracelet.

I bought a Tudor Pelagos off eBay. Came with box, papers, and the receipt. I actually went in an AD to examine their Pelagos- noted how the bezel felt, the sound of the clicks, the details of the clasp and dial. It all checked out. Got a great deal at $2800

Ebay is actually fairly safe for buyers, but ONLY if you do proper research and really properly check ratings and previous sales etc. also making contact is crucial, phoning them even. Japan is a fairly safe bet. I've heard a lot more dodgy stories about sellers getting scammed than buyers.

Didn’t know about the “s” in the crystal. Good tip thanks👍

Hey Adrian. Great vid! I've been wanting 5 digit Sub/GMT for a while which has some vintage charm. But still retain a robust case for active leisure. I've just been thought the exact experience. Though I was mainly window shopping. I spotted a 14060 with a fair price. Upon inspection. It was in very good condition and unpolished case with full lugs and chamfered edges and with all the pointers mentioned. It was circa 1997 Tritium dial with a full set with all the box and papers and tags. Even down to the original purchase receipt! It's literally spent it's whole life in my region. I knew I'd regret it. If i didn't jump on it. To top it off I comes on 12 months warranty. I've been wearing it 2 months straight! Absolutely over the moon!

I'm actually a dealer and was curious to hear more people's responses to the need for box and papers. To me, for my personal collection, box and papers is important from a collectors standpoint. But for those that don't care and just want a watch in great condition, does having a letter of authenticity put you all at ease? Especially buying from complete strangers over the internet?

"Why did you buy another sub" - Because you like subs and it's a watch for you. Thanks for the video man, enjoy that beauty

"Great condition, barely worn". Proceeds with macros of nicks on the edges deeper than the Marianna trench...This is not a barely worn watch mate, that was a daily beater.

The quality of Rolex packaging is an indicator of their overall product. Grossly over rated and over valued. Not junk. Not terrible. They're nice, but they are also 100% a product of marketing.

I love how excited you are about normal wear. I completely agree, if it's been worn (as opposed to abused), it adds character and value in my eyes.
